Every one I have ever had leaked out the base at some point......what I did was drain it, clean all around the base, especially around the sending wires, dry with compressed air, and with the unit upside down, poured a small amount of epoxy resin all around the wires and let dry, hasn't leaked in three years now.
Way cheaper then buying one and it will eventually leak......
PS. I am assuming it is the stock Merc clear plastic one...? I can not open your picture. If it is not, disregard my blabber.....lol

Dont spend the money on a used one, espically if they have been sitting around. I found new replacement from Wholesale Marine online. Part # 69622A12 for $100 bucks. These have a new designed bottom aluminum block and dont use the float sender. I just used a step drill bit and enlarged mine to accomodate the float switch.
Hope this helps.
