Looking to buy a factory Mercruiser service manual for a 99 hp 500. New or used, paper, CD, or digital download. Thank you.

You can buy them new from any Merc dealer, but they are pricey. About $80.

Hp 500 and 500 bulldog 2 different motors. Bulldog is a 540, with ribbed valve covers like a 420. I believe they stopped producing them when they started the hp500

HP500EFI (fuel injected and 502 cubic inches)
HP500 Carb (carb and 502 cubic inches)
HP500 Bulldog (carb & 540 cubic inches, marketed as a platform for aftermarket blowers)

The HP500 came first, I believe, but they were all around the 1998/1999 time frame, and the HP500EFI stuck around the longest.

Good info! That explains a lot about how stout the bulldog platform is.
