Neither is a bad prop just depends on what kind of boat it is and what it likes, what do you have?

hi thanks for your reply
its a pantera 28 with a diesel . max rpm 4000
i was running a 30 labbed b1 and my slip was 27%
i bought a stock maximus an slip went to 7% but i was down 200 rpm witch is not good for a diesel
i sent it to the local prop guru and it came back with half inch off dia and labbed witch got my 200 rpm but back to 20% slip

iv been told by that i should have just labbed the 15 5/8 maximus and left the dia alone
my x demintions are 17inches with b1x drive

so what prop works best on a 28 at 4000 rpm

I would send it back to your prop guy and have him put some cup back in the blades and see if that brings the slip down. What diesel do you have, my boat is also diesel, Yanmar 6LP's. The best thing you can do is try some different stock props and try to figure out what the boat likes. I don't think your boat will like the P5X due to the small diameter, what pitch Maximus did you buy? You should also try a stock 28 Bravo.

Also if your engine is not the Yanmar 6LP what does the manufacturer recommend and max RPM range? If it is the Yanmar you are ok at 3800.
