I am wanting info about garage door opener Genie Pro Screw Drive - with that said any one knows about these or does this for a Living ?
Hit the button and the motor just Hmmms then stops Hmms for about 6 seconds and of course the door does not move a hair - The lights turn on at the unit, So wondering what is the common fail part in the assembly that would cause this ? I am thinking capacitor ?
Anyone ? Thanks And I do have the model number if needed. 1/2 hp motor model CM8600IC/A ------- 120 V - 60 hz and 6 amp. receiver model ACSR3

So, I'm sure you've checked, but...just in case. Is the screw turning? What you describe sounds exactly like the behavior when you pull the release lever where the traveler on the screw connects to the bracket on the door. (Which lets you adjust the open/close position, and to open the door when the power is off.

I believe all of it is only 6 years old. No gears at all period in this unit. Have the motor apart - no gears - I can turn motor by hand - even with the internal portion still installed. External case I pulled off. IMO motor or capacitor. Have to figure out why I can turn internal motor portion by hand no matter what positon the door release in. The motor does have a flat spot round shaft about 1.5 inches long that IS NOT BROKEN either.
Just thought maybe some up here installs garage doors or owns a company like this. Still checking. I hate when I am not oriented which seems like simple stuff here. My wife tells me afterwards how is it that you can fix thousands of boats with your eyes closed but are sooooo clueless about a garage door operation and the fix for it. Jeez .

Since I did not know where to post this, but I did know how to fix the darn door to open again. And since I always want to know the fix for most things especially boats ---- here is ---- The fix, was the capacitor as I thought of being of 2 things. No volt meter testing as how I found what to be the problem was with a high quality real doctors stethoscope - as I use this for boat repair as well.
As I said the whole unit had a hmmm but nothing would happen - not at all - After putting all the motor back together, I put the scope on the internal parts of the opener and listen to which part had the hmmmm. The capacitor. Order it 13 bucks, came late yesterday finally.
The door people wanted something like 400 to 600 bucks, jeez they are worst than boat mechanics for billing. So that makes 3 big items fixed this year - the dishwasher, the leaky sink and the garage door. I am switching careers, total costs for the year 50 bucks. The kicker is my wife tells me how do you fix 1000 s of boats but can not fix this simple stuff around the house. Jeez as I laugh at her but man she is such a keeper.
