I had a 292, warmed over 454’s, no blowers, 26P props spinning over 5k. Low/mid 70’s any day of the week. Miss that one. Start a thread in the Formula section and you will get tons of input.

Why didn't you just spend the 40-50k you are considering spending on this boat on a different one??
IMO, you would still be much better off to sell and upgrade to another boat rather than putting significant amounts of $$ into the 33 year old one.
BTW, if you do an advanced search search my screen name and 525SC and you will find tons of info.

. Thank you for your reply and for the info. As far as the boat at the time it was all I could afford and it go my family into boating. Also I just love these boats more than newer ones. Plus I like to make things my own. Besides I won't have to spend that kinda money. Horse trading for most labor and parts. Getting boat painted by a buddy and getting apulstery done by another buddy's relative. Most other work I will do my self. Boat should be worth more than what I put into it especially for what I gave for it. I shouldn't have to spend more than 10k for all I want to do. And it will take a long time to find the boat that I would want to upgrade to. So until then I will be in a nice boat that will be worth something. May not ever even upgrade do to to many variables that would have to take place for it to happen. Love the looks of a sr-1 357 but I hear the 311 is far better than it and the 292. I still love my boat and can't wait to get these things done. The nice thing is I have a nice boat to use now that I can upgrade in stages as funds are available and my investment hopefully will continue to increase.

I had a 1992 31 Cigarette Bullet about 10 years ago. I went through the 525SC engines and upgraded the cams. They dynod @ 575 each. The boat would run a top speed of 82 in the ocean, and 80 on flat river water. I dont know what your boat weighs, but I believe the Bullet was about 8500 lbs. I was running 28P lab finished props from Bblades...Hopefully this can give you some idea on what your speed #s might be. Cool project...good luck!
