You can get a manual for bravo drives which covers all th engine packages they were mated to. You need to pick one up that covers your model year. It would have answered your sea water pumps questions in a second. Change the impeller in your port motor first, it is easy to get to and will only take you a half hour or so the first time. The starbird motor will be a b#tch, I'm just letting you know! I replace mine every year and it is a contortion job to say the least. I unbolt my rear bench seat and slide it as far forward as possible before I start.

In addition to Wally's informative how-to, you may find this useful as well:

Yep, I spent a lot of time looking at Mercrusier info on the internet and spent a lot of time yesterday looking at the pumps. The port will be no problem. Its the starboard one that will be. I also spent 2 hours trying to pry the inspection plate off the stelling stand off box to see why it is leaking oil from the seal ot the bottom of the box. It has leaked out about 2/3rds of a quart of gear oil in a month. I got it off without breaking the aluminum cover - took using a sharp putty knife - and saw that the seal around the drive shaft is good - no oil on it or around it. There are two hoses and two wires going ghrough the Stgelling box to the drive. They all have oil on them but the two wires have the most. Looks like a hose is leaking or the seal where the wires go through. I could not see the auctual point where the hoses and wire meet the drive - much too tight an area to work in. A lot of work to pull the drive to fix this when all I have to do is add a quart every month... The boat is in storage now so when I go back I will try one more time to see if I can tell exactly where the leak is and see if I can get my hand in there to see if the hose is really loose. I cannot imagine getting a socket in there to tighten a clamp...!

Wally, thanks for the step by step! Do I need to replace the housing too?

Now, to wait for some slightly better, warm weather and I will purchase all of the parts and take the boat out of storage and put it in my driveway so I can work on it. I actually look foward to working on things like this! Looks like a 6 beer job...!

The previous owner told me that the back of the seat un bolts. I will have to do this too - I need to replace the port bilge pump - its a real pain to get at too, and unbolting the seat is about the only way.

That would depend on the damage it has. If you have the time then take the thing apart then you can make the call and best case just get a new impeller. If you order the complete kit it comes with a new housing and if your old one is good then keep it for a spare and and you can just order a spare impeller and have that onboard the boat for that one time you burn it up out on the water! :D
