I feel your pain as we are a dog family as well.
You did all you could and then more.
So sorry for your loss.
Stay positive.

I thank everyone on OSO for their kind words and thoughts. Amazing, this poem is what they gave me when I had Grizz cremated. Not only that, the license plate of the owner of the cremation service said: "Mr Griz" and his wife's was: "Ms Griz".

Every day is a little better for each of us. The shock of it - he went from an extremely healthy, vibrant dog to gone in one minute. It has been very hard to deal with.

I found out that you can get shots from your vet for snake bites once a year that will increase their chance of survival to the vets office if they do get bit.

Life is so short -it is precious.

So sad, I tore down my dog kennel in my backyard on sunday, I found and KILLED 7 snakes in the yard. I dont know what kind they were nor do I care, I have 2 dogs running around all day back there and Im not taking chances. I dont like killing anything but for some reason snakes arent a problem for me... Sorry for your loss man!!!

I know a rattler the moment I see one, even if it has no rattles. Its the arrow shaped head, from the venom sacks.

I usually kill every rattler I see, will not stop now... There just really are not any here in Reno at 5500 ft elevation. Very rare.

Glad you got the 7 you did before you had a horror story to deal with. Imagine if they live and have to have a limb amputated because of a bite.

I used to live in the Santa Cruz mountains and my cats kept getting bit. You would not know it until you saw a really swollen paw. Damn cat thought it was faster than the snake- kept trying to swat it. But, the snake never got a good bite in....

I have been able to deal with my grief by getting a pup from Grizz's father (Trip) who is Grizz's half brother:

I am to receive him on June the 15th. It will not replace Grizz, but when ever I replay the memory of what happened - which is many times a day, I force myself to think of the new pup....

This is where Grizz's father was from. His dad has been gone since 2006 but they kept his semen for pups: http://www.jazztimelabs.com/index.htm

Most incredible Field and Trials dog I have ever heard of. This is not what interested me, it was how smart each dog from Trip is, including Grizz. He was just too curious...

He was a true hunter even though we never went hunting. He climbed the walls if a quail walked by the patio door! Yet, he ignored black birds. He tried so hard to get ducks when we were at Havasu...
