Colorado Check-in?

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but I live in Colorado and was wondering if anyone on the board also boats in CO. I know it's no Lake Michigan or ocean, but I was out on Cherry Creek Res the other day and saw at least a 30' go fast boat with twins tearing it up, couldn't get close enough to see what brand but it sure looked and sounded like one hellova boat!

Regards,

Seth

you need to check out Horsetooth reservoir in Ft. Collins. Cherry creek is the smallest pond in Colorado.

You want a big lake in Colorado...have a look at Blue Mesa just West of Gunnison on highway 50. Been on it many times. It is long and it is deep.

How big of boats have you seen out there? I hunt south of Gunnison, Beautiful lake.

I havent seen that many performance boats but I have seen some 30 to 40 footers before. I do see alot of cruisers...usually, I suspect from people camping. I have a cabin in Lake City and hunt North, West and South of there quite often. Usually I am in the Alpine Range area, just South of the Blue Mesa properties area. There are also some prime spots on BLM land inside the Blue Mesa Properties. Dont let some of the old farts con you by saying that you cant hunt in there...they just dont want you to put a cap in one of their pet deer or elk. Several years ago I had a clown ride his 4 wheeler up to where I wa hunting, just raising all sorts of Hell to scare everything off and you could hear his wife screaming at him to not go start trouble. He made a terrible mistake when he got off of it and walked over to me. Somehow, my 300 mag went off and hit the 4 wheeler dead center in the cylinder...then I told him he had 10 minutes to get out of my site. From talking to some people that I know who live in the Blue Mesa...that ole fart never agrivated anyone again.

Friend of mine runs his 292 Baja Islander up here & I saw a '38 down @ Meridath on Memorial Day. That lake is shallow, think he plugged his sea pump & fried one of his motors that w/e.

Nice looking lake and everyone seems to be having a great time...but most of...if not all, the water comes from melting snow. I jumked into Blue Mesa several years ago when the sun was shinning bright and the temperature was in the upper 80's. I couldnt pee for 2 days because I couldnt fine it. Cold is an understatement. Jumped off the bridge on highway 149 where you turn off highway 50 to go to Lake City. The water temp on my lake here last week was 95* in our cove. Two years ago, the water level at Blue Mesa was almost to the top of the dam and they had the gates open. Last year, the water level was at least 40+ feet down, but still covered in boats. We make our annual motorcycle trip thru there every year in late May. Have a look at our adventures... http://shooteraod.dyndns.org/BikeRides (pics and vids of our rides)

I am going to have to look your lake up. Last May we went by The Paonia State Park Lake on highway 133 and there was nothing there but a small triclke that one could not get their ankles wet in. The year before it was full and running out the chute at the dam, but the water was very muddy. Dont know what the deal with that was as the May before that, the water was a very dark blue clear color. I hope you guys get alot of snow in the high country to load the lakes back up.

wow...looks like it is just out side of Ft. Collins...even farther North. How do you guys stand it. Seems like the water temp would be in the upper 40's at the most.

If he was on the Lake Meredath that is North of Amarillo...I dont have any idea how he got his boat in the water...or what water with the drought that we have been having. (that must be Bush's fault too) Your right...the lake is shollow. Most of the people that I know out that way go to Chonchas lake in New Mexico.
