Lake Pend Oreille Fun Run?

Anyone in the region interested in helping organize a mid summer fun run from the Dover/Sandpoint area down the lake to Bayview?
I’m not sure what the local ordinances are but plan to start with law enforcement for variance’s if needed.

87MirageIntruder 04-17-2020 03:08 PM

I thought the lakes in Idaho have a 50mph max speed limit? I was going to head to Couerdalene last summer and thought I read that.

RavensdaleWolf 04-17-2020 10:12 PM

I am a little far to help organize but I would love to attend! I am located in the Seattle area.

they do have speed limits but I think you can get a waiver for a special event, otherwise I would just wing it. I’m pretty sure it’s been done before.

As a local performance boat dealer in liberty lake, we would be interested in helping out! Our shop is Legend Performance Marine. We sell Hallett and Nordic powerboats

hoodoo 05-28-2020 07:47 PM

Sounds good.
if you pm me your contact info I’ll stop by.
I’m in and out of Spokane all summer.

bolin22 05-29-2020 03:52 PM

interested in attending, coming from Kalispell.

Lake Pend Oreille

I’m still working on, this but the boat I’m bringing up isn’t going to be rigged in time for my usual July time frame so it looks like I’m boatless in Idaho this summer. The Bonner Cty sheriffs
marine division told me he would be unlikely to issue a speed limit exemption in areas of recreational boats but invited me to meet with him to discuss specifics, so still possibly doable. Maybe have to stick to a specific route?

Lake Pend Oreille

Also waiting to hear back from the marina at Bayview about dock space. I remember them being kind of tight in room. It might be better to leave from Bayview and run north and into the river to Dover where there is a more open marina or even Willow Bay, which is super laid back. But it’s about 9 miles down river. Also I have a dock very close to Willow Bay but the wake boat traffic would make rafting a very bumpy affair.

Just saw this thread. We have land on Pend O'rielle (buddy has a house on Priest) and absolutely love it up there (in the summer ;) ) Goal is to drag the cigarette up there to use at some point. There is a guy that has a lake front house across from Hope that has a nice Gladiator. Last time we were up he was GETTIN' it heading towards Sand Point. Didn't seem to much care about a speed limit :D I believe he was from Washington full time. Good luck with putting this together, if it becomes "a thing" it would give us a good reason to drag up.

87MirageIntruder 08-13-2020 03:35 PM

I've gotta admit, if I ever got a speeding ticket in my boat I would frame it and put it on the wall in my office. Just sayin

I’ve seen that Cig a few times, I’d never heard about a speed limit until 87mirage brought it up. I don’t think it’s a big deal except on the river and around town. There’s a lot of open water between Hope and Bayveiw.
My neighbor at the river just got a new M31, I don’t think he’d be there if he couldn’t air it some on the lake.

Nice DCB. I'm surprised theres not more performance boat on Pend O'reille. It's such a big lake and cool little fingers and islands and that water! Crystal clear. Nothing like it except when you get up in the northern states. I think the speed limit is enforced when someone is being stupid. LOL Otherwise you're good to go.

Ever see submarines cruising around?

Here's a couple shots of the last time we were there. It's been a couple years unfortunately. Rented a place down in Hope on the water and the pics at the creek and the forest stuff is our property (my dad and my kid). Right up from trestle Creek if you know where that is.

There is a another hot rod on the lake now as well. ON e of our customers just took delivery of a DCB M35. There are several of us getting together this weekend on Pend Oreille. No real plans though. We are staying in Dover bay. Ill post some pics soon

That red DCB is a good customer of ours. Super cool guy!

Hey Hoodoo, wheres your place on Priest? My buddies place is in Outlet bay. Great little spot on the water.

I’m about 10 mi downriver from Sandpoint.
The River/lake water is always clean and cool, here in Sarasota if you jump overboard you just get wet and sticky, the air and water are about the same temp. Very familiar with trestle creek.
I’m from SW FL and like the Sandpoint area enough to entertain the idea of living there year round. ( possibly overstating my ability to handle the winter). The days get really short in early winter but a heated shop would probably get me thru.

His Dad is my next door neighbor and he has a house a few hundred yards downriver.
Do you know what he has for power??
When I had my scarab up there for a few years it was kinda badass for the river, now I’m bringing up a new 34 phantom and it’s starting to look a bit slow lol.

Try hauling ass from Bottle Bay around the bend towards Bayview for a couple miles and see if you get hassled. Do you know the name of that cove on the west shore about a third of the way down to Bayview? The beach is all 3”-5” round stones and a really nice place to anchor up and hang out.

LPM 08-17-2020 10:04 AM

It has mercury racing 700's with NXT drives

LPM 08-17-2020 10:09 AM

Hoodoo, on saturday several of us met up down by the dam on the river. We had an MTI 340, the red DCB M31, a Nordic Heat, our Hallett 300, a chapparal and a Hallett 275. It was kinda like our old havasu days when we left. All running together back up river about 65-70 mph! I think we are doing Pend Oreille again this coming weekend

LPM 08-17-2020 10:18 AM

Hoodoo, that bay you are talking about is Garfield bay i think. We went right past several sherriffs boats this last weekend and never got hasseled. However, when we launched the M35 on thursday, the sherrif came over and kindly asked us to wait about 10 minutes before we pissed everyone off as his shift was ending! He was actually very nice. We chatted with him for a few minutes and then he took off. Most of them are very nice but there is one that can be a peckerhead!

Sounds frigging awesome, especially in that setting. Wish I could have been there! The 34 is coming along nicely but it’s a next year thing for me. I’ll definitely be on the river all summer.
Thank you for the update.

I am beginning a search for a lake house on Pend Orielle. After going there earlier this summer my girlfriend and I were hooked. We were just there last week researching areas we liked and will be going back in September. We took my Barefoot Mastercraft both times since I am between boats until my Victory shows up sometime this winter. LOVE the lake and river. We live in Washington its about a 6 hr drive so not bad. I met the guy with the red M35 DCB and and also another gent with a new 34 MTI. They both said don't be a jackass and run fast on the river or near town and the cops dont hassle you. The lake is massive and mostly unpopulated so doing some speed runs up lake are "acceptable". Next year I would be very interested in a fun run and will hopefully have a place there.

Enjoy it while you can.... Actually this was taken last February. The summer level is usually maintained till October. Chilly but peaceful.

ah! My bad, my buddy is on priest lake not the river. We’ve never actually boated down the river. Usually stick from Hope to standpoint. If we drag the cigarette up there next year we’ll be running to every area on the lake. I’ve been going there for over 40 years. Place is absolutely amazing. But I could NEVER live there in dead of winter. It is crazy winter up there.

gld to see fast boats running there. All the years I’ve been going there (and I’ve loved fast boats since I was a kid) the first offshore style boat I’ve ever seen there was that gladiator. Get the run going and we’d like to make it!

hoodoo 08-22-2020 07:36 AM

The river is 99% deserted in winter. Even in the summer a lot of the houses are empty except on weekends and holidays. If not for the winter weather, this place would be overrun with people. But I’ve seen little change (compared to FL) in the 15 or so years I’ve been going up there. Definitely an uptick in faster boats lately. And up there the boats get used a lot during the season. Here in FL the season never ends but the boats mostly sit on the lift.

thisistank 08-22-2020 09:26 AM

How many miles do you think is is from say sand point or priest river to bay view? Seems like that would be a long / good run! I think a poker run would be a blast on that lake and do it old school with 5 stops on the water and lunch then back to a host hotel most likely out of sand point in the marina. Make something happen in July next year and we’re in! could get Jason Johnson from speed on the water to cover it no problem ;)

hoodoo 08-25-2020 05:43 AM

For that you’d probably need to do the river and the lake.
Launching at the dam and running past Sandpoint to bayview and back up to Sandpoint or Dover would total about 85mi.
Possible stops would be Willow Bay, Dover on the river. Sandpoint, Bottle Bay, Hope, Garfield Bay, Bayview and Clark Fork on the lake. I don’t know what’s in Clark Fork.

LPM 08-25-2020 10:04 AM

Hoodoo, theres nothing in the clark fork area that i know of unless you actually boat up the river. Dover would be a good place to start and finish as they have the most dock space. Plus a nice restaurant! They also rent side ties overnight. Im going to have the wife start researching this for next year!

thisistank 08-26-2020 10:34 AM

Yeah, there aint jack up in Clark Fork. It's all swampyish up there, not much to see via water either.

Could always just do Sandpoint, Hope for a quick dock hand out card pickup, and then lunch at Bayview and back. 3 cards, then get the other two at dinner. Plenty of runs do it that way.

hoodoo 08-26-2020 03:41 PM

Sounds good but need to work Dover in the mix, it’s just slightly down river from Sandpoint and is probably the best restaurant/bar

start and end there. Quick stop and grab at the ramp in front of sand point marina. Then snatch and grab at hope and over to bay view for light appetizers and drinks. Back to Dover for dinner. 😉👍

Any updates on a fun run for the end of summer or this fall? Just got a new boat and would love to meet up with some like minded boaters!

NWfreerider 09-28-2020 08:07 PM

Just did a short weekend trip there looking at property and my friend who lives on the river in Laclede wanted to run his 340 MTI. Soooooo... we bent the speed limit slightly and did a nice 70+ mile run down and back on the river and out on the lake until the water got very nasty. Awesome ripping with no boats on the water!!!
