trs alignment help,
I am trying to figure out an easy way to align the out drive.
I have a 86 Baja trs new stringers , motor mounts and everything else.
Also how do the spacers and washers go on the tail shaft of the trans to transom?
Any help or tricks to mount this pain in the rear out drive .
It seams like every time I put it on it takes four or five hours and it falls in???
Any helpful hints would be great!!!
I am trying to get a test run in this week.
Thanks for you advice in advance.

Re: trs alignment help,
the washers spring and big washer go under the tail shaft. then get youre alignment tool and check the engine alignment. with the drives resting on a floor jack have someone position the trim cycls. and feed the shaft into the tail housing then move the drive side to side while turning the prop and pushing in. a little pratice and you can do this in 30 seconds. I also have an 86 baja. 320. good luck and dont break youre back.

Re: trs alignment help,
bbb, when you say the spring , you mean the curly lockwasher right. I thought it goes from the top.
large bolt then large washer fiber washer-trans/bushing-fiber and spring/ then transom washer, nut.
I hurt my back last time. don't want to do it again.
thanks tom

Re: trs alignment help,
do I have the trans bolted in the right order?
large bolt large washer fiber washer trans bushing fiber washer curly spring bell housing washer nut. ????
fibers isolate the bushing and spring washer holds weight of trans on bell housing.
some one probably remembers these old things?

Re: trs alignment help,
I have a little trick I used when I didn't have an alignment bar handy, I used a digital protractor. The transom should be 13 degrees from engine angle when in alignment. The digital protractor I have has an "alternate zero" button which I set while on the transom. Then I place it on the front crank pulley. Move the front of the engine up or down until you get 13 degrees. Should be good. Don't be confused by different boat transom angles, Mercruiser designs everything around a normal 13 degree transom angle. One problem with this is it doesn't help you adjust the gimbal bearing if it's not aligned properly.
