Default Hp500 carb to efi conversion questions

I currently have a 97 hp 500 carb motor that I am converting over to EFI. I am purchasing a complete take off 500 EFI setup with everything but the distributor. Will I need to install a crank sensor somewhere in this engine or do the 500 efi's use the cam sensor in the distributor only? This is a gen VI 502, and there is a place in the front cover for a crank trigger, but it is currently blocked off. Also, can I use an automotive distributor from a v8 with EFI, or does it have to be a mercruiser distributor?

probably going to have a bad idle with that cam and that efi set-up - at very least it won't be ideal. Maybe you should consult with one of the guys that can tune the mefi ecm.

ok- the 500efi didn't use a crank trigger. It used a Delco distributor, I believe its called a "voyager" model
