Unhappy Port motor went to lunch

then it got thirsty and drank lots of water
i pulled the intake off hoping it was the water passage leaking in, and maybe i would get lucky and put new intake gaskets and flush the motor... but .... i found two bent push rods and pieces of piston in the valley..,. no easy fix.... f__king
Boats.... damn

what motors are you running? And did you determine where the water ingestion came from? Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope you can get the boat back together soon.

420's ,60 over, roller cams, monster ported heads..
we noticed when we pulled the intake, the gasket
sucked itself into the intake ports on a few ports...
never saw that before.... the water passages look as if they were sealed, there was however a loose intake bolt right next to one of the water passage's.. don't know where the water came in yet , boat is still in the water. the oil water milk mix was all the way up to the bottom of the valley when we pulled the intake.... i 'm very curious as to where the water entered also.. the motors never ran hot, they had 80 lbs of oil pressure and i believe they had no more than 20 hrs on them.... guess i'll rip it down and see if the block is salvagable and take it from there....

i was about to sell a pair of 330's that i am in the process of having completely redone..... maybe i should just keep these as spares........

I hate to say it, but if you found pieces of piston in the valley, i think you can rest pretty sure that the block is going to be junk. If the rods bent I would assume water entered the cylinders either via water reversion or a crack in the block. You might be able to save the crank and the heads, but sounds like the block is going to be useless.

Default I feel your pain!

Hey,
I know how it feels, My HP 500 motor lasted 45 minutes. the rebuilder forced a piston in & broke the oil ring...that ring tore up the cylinder wall , dropping all the the metal in the oil pan. The result was 2 spun rod bearings. Now I have a 509 motor! Rebuilt the motor , got 20 hours on it, lost a Rocker arm, no damage. Something told me check the other side & I found my CMI header had cracked & leaked water into my # 8 cylinder. So now I need another header. My next boat will have outboards.
