Default BBC weight?

What does a dressed big block weigh? 500lbs? 700lbs?

My old Merc catalog says: 454mpi = 886lbs, 502mpi = 965lbs

Sorry, that's the inboard version I don't know if that weight is including trannys.

Total weight w/ bravo 1 drive is 1,200 lbs.. so subtract whatever the drive weights, maybe 150-175.. just over a grand..

I remember that 1200 number from the merc brochures. Even without the drive the still sounds heavy.

I had a 572 shipped with starter and alt. (no ignition or carb ) shipped on a skid and the billing weight was 925 lbs.

It seems like my numbers were correct, but I still think it sounds heavy.
I had a 454" in a car a couple of years ago, and that motor was 700lbs w/o exhaust.

Well that's the reason! You're talking 454 and the rest of us are talking 540's and 572's! It's the extra cubes that are adding the weight!
