Default 496 HO closed cooling questions

There are four very small diameter hoses running off of the air inlet valve assembly where you attach the air pump to flush the seawater out of the engine. There is one green and one white hose running down on each side of my 2003 engine. I think that the pumped air runs down the white hose, pushes out the water, and then returns through the green hose, and then pushes the green tab out to indicate that you've flushed the motor fully. Don't know if all that is accurate. Problem is, both hoses on one side are melted from contacting the engine (seems like a poor design), with the white one bleeding pumped air and the green one melted and cauterized like a wound (no air coming back through).

First question: I removed the four blue plugs on the drain system to drain the seawater and assume that is sufficient for the winter (manual seems to say so)

Second question: Does any water circulate through those little hoses or is it just air? If the former, I must have a leak and should replace under warranty.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The 496 Ho is a closed cooling system - no sea water ever enters the block. To flush salt water after a run simply hook up ears to the water pick-ups on your lower drive and Idle for about 5 mins to 10 mins - that should be more than adequate. I am a west coast guy and don't have to worry about winterizing so I am not that familar with the pump assembly - never have to use it. But if you have any damaged, melted engine componets I would take it straight to a dealer and have it fixed. No sense in guessing about what needs repair, after all that motor is about a $17,000 investment. Good Luck
