Default Ignition Kill Tethers

To all fellow Awesome owners. For whatever reason, and please correct me if I am wrong, (with one exception) our boat were built without a ignition kill tether system. The key switch was the only way to stop the motor/motors from running.

For safety sake, (for those who have not already installed one)would you please this winter consider installing a tether system on your boat. The cost is not high and think of the safety element that you have put in place.

From a personal experience (not with my Awesome but with my previous boat), I was throw, cleared the boat so no injuries to me at 65+ mph. Was wearing a full vest. I was the only person onboard and the boat came to safe and short distance stop. I was in Lake Erie at the time, nuff said. The tether saved my butt.

I have a considerable amount of electrical expertise and can help anyone who may need it to install this system.

The pics show my ignition/start panel. The upper momentary military spec switches are for the starters. The middle military spec switches are for the ignition on/off. They lock in the up "ignition on" position and the toggle handle must be pulled to place back into the lower "ignition off" position. The lower is the Merc tethers.

The one exception in Awesome builds that I know of was the Warcat build. Knowing a little about the owner, I am sure he insisted on the kill tethers being installed. It is a shame that he is not around today to enjoy the boat today.

Had mine installed on console when I added latham steering wouldn't drive anything without it . I've had a 100 mph 20' allison and also a old 1993 bayliner deckboat "love it " first thing on is kill switch. Why not ? No problem to much to lose for no reason.

Its not so much having the tethers on the boat....its getting the people to actually use them!!! As in clip them on....

Glad to hear that you have one, and use it. Here is another method.
