I disagree with fixall. If c/r drives don't improve speed, then why do all twin engine race boats run them?
c/r drives can work together to lift the boat or hold the boat in place (prop rotation). there are many aspects to consider, but generally speaking the c/r set-up is more efficient at propelling the hull forward because the drives work in conjunction with the hull and the strakes, not against it.
