Default 1987 242ss exhaust

I have an 1987 242ss 454 bravo 1 and getting ready to change the exhaust manifolds and risers. This boat also has the silent thunder swim platform on it and i was wondering if i should order the manifolds for a standard bravo layout or do i need any special spacers or not,i am not sure if the it will line up with the holes on the transom(i think they are higher with the silent thunder platform)Also debating witch manifolds to use.
1. dana marine
2. gil
3. imco
4. stainlees marine
I appreciate any suggestions thanks

What are you trying to do? Are you going to run the exhaust out thru the platform or just keep it stock and go thru the prop? I don`t think you will have any problems with any of the ones you picked. Do you have problems with the stock exhaust?

Let us know what your plans are.

Good luck

I recently put Stainless Marine exhaust on my 292. Call them, I'm sure they will help you get the right ones. BTW, they sound much better and increases perfromance too!

I hate to dig up an old thread like this but I'm going through the exact same thing. I have a 90 242SS. Will the standard bravo style gil wet exhaust fit my boat? I know i need to buy the brackets for the oil filter and shifters. I want the tails to exit into the ST box like factory.

I have stainless marine manifolds that I am going to put in my 87 242 SS. The manifold part is just fine for fitment. The tails/risers are the part that need to be fitted/measured/ordered right for the target location at the transom. Both the height and length can be ordered to specific measurements and that will put the exhaust right where you want it.

I don't have my tails yet because the engine and manifolds need to be set in the boat to measure for the right dimensions. I'm converting my old platform to a S/T and will run the exhaust into it just like stock. The measuring diagram and instructions of how to determine the risers/tails numbers are on the stainless marine web site. Look under installation.

Default 1987 242ss Manifolds

If you get the standard center riser replacements for the 454, then they will be in the right place to connect to the 4" hoses to go through the transom into the silent thunder platform.

I recently ordered and installed a set from Barr. They are basically the same as OEM.
