Call Dave Stiff @ Innovation, tell him what you want. They built all the Volvos and do our engines that match up to the DPX's. Just gave us a 575 with a DPX for a Reindl 28 Vamp pleasure version boat. Awesome engine... Purple and yellow paint, great sound, Eickert Headers, SS Braided lined, all the goodies at a geat price!

From other boat owners, I have heard that the engines are just fine. They are built with solid parts and are fresh water cooled. The drives on the other hand can barely handle 500 horses and 600 is out of the question. Props are said to bend too easily and have not heard of a solution. Many boat owners have kept the engines but swapped to Bravo or XR drives. That generally involves purchase of extension boxes and new steering rams. Just my .02 cents.

Thumbs up

I've got 3 of them in two boats - one in a 28' BatBoat (like the Reindl) and a pair in a 38 Formula. Most of the drive problems came in when builders tried to mount the drives too high and they started popping in and out of the water. With all the blade area there is on those props, it's a pretty big shock to the system if you don't get the throttling right. I've had no problems with bending props, and I'm pushing 12,000 pounds. Just make sure that you keep 'em fairly deep in the water. Acceleration and control around the docks is great. Oh-and the sound is awesome. Mine will set off car alarms at 300 feet. (Right, BajaBob?)

Hopefully, there will be a bulletproof drive for them in a year or two.

They are indeed built with 1st-class stuff: JE, Crane, Crower, Holley (EFI), Mellings, Eickert, FelPro, Manley, etc. They start instantly, never stall, and don't soot up the transom. Call Dave Stiff at Innovation: (941) 355-7852. Tell him Chuck referred you.
