As bad as your English is - guaranteed its better than my/our Dutch!

See if the factory boys can help out here. Looks like you have some names to work with.

Did you polish this black gel agressively?
Looks like its been thinned out over repeated buffings.

How many hours on the rig?
Sorry you are having a problem.

Re: Used Fountain Powerboat USFGQ9T195F708, Black Gel Coat

Dear Mr. Bijlsma:

Thank you for your reply, and the HIN confirmation.

I have had the opportunity to pull the boat file on this specific boat, as well as to discuss this matter directly with Mr. Fountain.

As a matter of background, I was able to confirm that your boat was indeed initially sold to 1st 4 Boats, and that they registered the boat as a demonstrator. They then sold the boat to another individual from their dealership.

The purchaser of the vessel then traded the boat back to 1st 4 Boats toward the purchase of another Fountain Powerboat. It was presumably after this transaction that you purchased the vessel in a used condition from 1st 4 Boats.

For your reference I have attached copies of the Written Express Limited Warranty, and the Exclusion of Liability for Colored Hull and Deck that was supplied with the boat to the dealership. Please note that this warranty was not a transferable warranty, and therefore subsequent purchasers of the vessel would not have future warranty coverage.

Additionally, in our investigation of this matter we discovered that our factory sales representative personally inspected the boat in October and observed fading from prior use/abuse of the vessel. This was also presumably prior to your purchase of the vessel; therefore, it would appear that this was indeed a pre-existing condition at the time you purchased this used boat.

We certainly want to provide the ultimate in customer service to all of our customers, and we are genuinely interested in doing all that we can to insure that all of our customers enjoy a positive experience with our products; however, we must also operate with prudent business direction in this incredibly challenging economic time within the marine industry. It is essential that we work within the structure of our written warranty. It is particularly important when there was an expressed Exclusion of Liability directed at a particular issue, in this case black gel coat.

It is our experience that colored gel coat and black in particular, will fade significantly over time, particularly on the horizontal surfaces. This primarily includes the deck. That is why we do not recommend black gel specifically, and why there was an Exclusion of Liability issued with the boat.

Therefore, and in light of the information we have discovered to this point, we will not be able to provide any assistance in this matter from a warranty perspective.

It is our recommendation that if your “detail shop” cannot “buff” the boat to a satisfactory condition, the superior solution would be to paint the deck of the boat.

The gel and paint codes for Fountain can be found on our website www.fountainpowerboats.com, and the individual links to the codes are:

http://www.fountainpowerboats.com/sport/owner/gel.html

I am sorry that there is nothing further that we can do on this from a warranty perspective; but, we do indeed value your business. If there is any technical support that we can provide to you, your detail shop, or your paint shop, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
