I don't plan on participating, but would love to if it were possible. Charlie will be asked to make everyone happy, which is impossible. In my opinion, keeping it simple is the best way to keep turnout high, as most will be doing this for the thrill. Small Vs, small cats, large Vs and large cats. No power restrictions. The distance of the course will be the equalizer.

If the classes were right I think it would be fun. Maybe get more people in the sport if they had aChance to run "pleasure" boats and race them rather than having to run against people with obv better set up power

this type of event isnt about how fast you go, its about how long you can go fast.... I won my class in 2008 Bimini race by being consistent and outlasting the others. (and a killer map)

I would like to see how many apaches cigarettes and fountains between 38'-42'will enter this. That makes me interested. Handicap if its calm should be a certain amount of time per step on the boat. One step=5min Two step=10min just example. That's my thoughts.

[QUOTE=PARASAIL941;4213249] Here's an idea...... One Vee class , no restrictions except a REAL SIMPLE handicap system. On a 270 mile race , Add 3 minutes to start time for every foot over 35' boat length , subtract 3 min for every foot under 35'. Add 1.5 minutes to start time for every year above 2000 model year , subtract 1.5 min for every year below 2000. DONE!!! Example.... A 1985 24' Banana would earn a 51 min head start ( 30 min for length , 21 for age ). A 2000 35' no handicap . A 2010 Outerlimits 42' would earn a 31.5 min delay ( 18 min for length , 13.5 min for age ) . Try this with a couple boats on paper and they look to be very close at the finish , depending on conditions. This would give the guys with older boats and guys with smaller boats a fighting chance , instead of feeling defeated in the first 10 minutes of the race . When you sign up , you get a start time . SIMPLE , NO ENGINE RULES NEEDED. QUOTE]
This sounds like a simple and workable solution (IMO).

Working with something as difficult as class breakdown, this makes the most sense yet!!!!

I think having a overall conservative estimated speed for each boat would be a nice controlling variable to be entered also.
Everyone gives their boats specs ahead of time and the race committee assigns them a rating showing their estimated top speed for their engine package etc, etc. If you don't agree with their estimate you ask for a review.
I think that this race would be more for the Spirit of things I would hope the participating entrants would not get to hung up on their rating if it was not favorable
