By a very roughly plotted course, I calculated the distance from Port Washington to Shinnecock Inlet is about 140 miles. I doubt I could make that without refueling. I hold 315 gals (105 per tank per engine)..

There is a company called ATL that makes really safe fuel bladders.

If you could fasten a couple of those and then transfer from the bladders into your main tanks and finish the run.

The safest way is to not try to replumb your stock fuel supply, but simply refill the stock tanks when they empty. Not the old school way either. On a Miami to Nassau race in the 50's the racers would stop at one of the islands along the way and the natives would roll a 55 gallon drum or two on board and off they would go.

I remember the NPBA had a lot of info available to the racers. They had volunteer helpers in boats located all around the island to assist any boat needing help and towing if need be, into the nearest safe harbor. I am not sure what they plan for this year.

if any of the Long Island or Connecticut guys know of all the safe harbors or refueling locations along the way, that would help to create a list of them and approx how many miles to each one fromthe start off Port Washington.

I sort of understand the concept of making it a "spectator" sport, and keeping is close, but "speed limit" isn't it. I don't have an answer, but this "sped limit' concept pretty much take s away from a lot of the racing fundamentals and doing things out of the box with boats and motors, etc. I agree with some competitive class structure, but not this GPS BS. Not familiar with the "drag race" environment, but seems like the only race you loose by doing better then some one else. And I know the GPS can be ,, "played with".. I do enjoy the show, and as far as I'm concerned it is. Many times a boat just runs around, doing laps in cruise mode as well. So let's not debate this here. Home from the OFF/CRA meetings and I'm not alone in this opinion.

It takes a long time to get to the gas dock at Danfords in Pt. Jefferson, way to long if you're involved in a race. The ferry might be slow things up a bit too.

Possible refueling in Mt Sinai or Mattituck.
From there I don't see anything on north shore of LI until Greenport (west after Plum Gut) or Montauk.
Could be something in CT, but that is way outta the way.
