Not sure why myself, could be the heat given off, or who knows but I installed one as a test to see what the light was going to be like .. compared to the florescents. Great! Wasn't till later I was reading up on them and that was mentioned so I went and looked at my trial fixture, and no cobwebs unlike the others. 
Not to mention forever changing bulbs, and dealing with spent ones that contain mercury, that nobody wants !

30x50 is no where near big enough....especially with 10 ceilings. Just big enough to get the eliminator in and pull it off the trailer.
Next one is going to be a 50x100 steel building with cement floor and heat!!!

Did you price steel buildings when you had yours done? Morton does build a great looking building but I can beat them every time with pre-engineered steel and steel will have higher wind and snow loads. Morton is the only wood frame manufacture I can do this with though. Just curious if this is the case in other locations.

I know you're not referring to me, but I have been looking at "Factory Steel Overstock.com"
They have 50x100x16 kits, with doors, insulation and delivery for around 30K

Yes it is. I keep the thermostat at 52 degrees and work in there in shirt sleeves during the winter. Remember heat rises up from the floor. I also pickup 3-4 degrees from the t-8 bulbs. I am in the process of changing over to LED bulbs in the lights. I have 64 fixtures in 4 rows on two switches total amount of bulbs 256. As the old bulbs burn out I replace them with LEDs.

I'm looking at building a 36 x 50 this spring for my 38' TG, trailer, and other misc stuff/toys. Is that interior pic of your building the full 30' width or do you have a wall down the center of the building? Looks tight.
There is a wall down the center.... previous owner made a 15x21 garage in the front left corner with a pad and garage door. Although it's a nice room to build the motors and keep tools etc... it really breaks up the barn and makes putting anything else in there difficult. I would definitely do at least 12' ceilings if I were you and probably go 40x60 minimum as most have said.
