Tach bounce

Tach bounce
My tach acts up a lot, mainly at start up. Usually reads a couple 1000 rpm high. A few good taps on the gauge brings it back in line. Checked all connections on back, all are tight. Stewart Warner. Any thoughts? Send in for repair or disposable? Really prefer to keep this one as it matches the rest. Thanks

Jerry-
I had same problem with my tach. It will get worse. Ordered a black tach from Nordskog which almost matches perfectly the black stock nordskog speedo.
Still waiting for risers to do exhaust change. Thanks again for all the help with that.

Thanks! I will loosen and clean the connections. I figure it has to be at the gauge since a beating on the dash corrects it. That brings me to another question. How come none of the other gauges work?
Dave,
Got those valves modified then I take it. Great!
My speedo is Nordskog, everything else is SW. Wonder why Fountain did this? I did replace my 0-100mph speedo last year with a 0-80mph. The replacement had the new style face plate. They still had some older faceplates and swaped it over at no charge. The older style matched all the other SW gauges almost perfectly. So if all else fails, might check into the Nordskog tach.

US-1 my Fountain was set up exactly as yours with the SW guages and I had the same problem you are having. I replaced the tachs and the problem dissapeared. I put Faria tachs in and am in the process of replacing the rest of them. I'll probably catch flack for using the faris but I have used them before and they work excellent plus I really like the look of the Euro white style.

If you got a 4/6/8/12 switch (or some other labeled switch to set the tach to the correct cylinders) then turn it back and forth a bunch of times.
If you can get into the back of the tach, spray some contact cleaner on the contacts of that switch and turn it a bunch. That is normallly where the problem comes from.

Thanks for the offer Brian. New name I see. I will try the cleaning route and see what happens this weekend. Hope to see you there.

Jer, I had the same problem with my SW tach, called SW, they said wore out. Bought a new one from Rex ($118), fixed the prob. Also replaced speedo with new style Nordskog when they had blowout prices (50).
