Key West qualifications
My sponsors are asking that I return to Key West again this year for the Worlds. I need to answer some questions before I know it's feasable.
We registered the team at last year's Worlds, and will be racing with the same crew. We ran all three races there last year, so does this meet the 2-race minumum to qualify this year? We have not ran any other qualifying races with SBI/APBA this year.
If were good there... what's the P-Class requirements for a GPS system? Garmin 120? Anything else I need to know about in P-Class rule changes from previous years?
Thanks in advance, and looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Key West qualifications
Brian,
Frank is correct on the GPS, we've been using the Garmin 172. About $380 at West Marine, although you may be able to find it cheaper if you shop around. If you can't find a 172, call the SBI/APBA office to ensure you get something that is compatible...most likely the next Garmin model up from the 172. They'll still use the prop calc to put you in the correct class.
The new top speed is based on last year's average speed, plus 7 mph. Although they still track and score average speeds, they're not considered for breaking out. At the end of the race, Pop will verify your top speed on the GPS then download it to a card. With the download, he loads it to a laptop where he'll verify you did all the laps and did not reset your GPS during the race. Top speed for P4 is 82.0 mph...82.1 and you've broke out.

Re: Key West qualifications
SBI Rulebook in the P-Class section says "Currently, the Garmin 172 model and higher" have the capabilitities for downloading onto a data card.
I'd like to purchase a Garmin that has a color charting display, and still be legal with Tech. Looking at the 192C. Anyone have input on which models they're using?
Thanks again,
Brian
