It has not been done yet. The 525EFI/XR package makes a very versatile 28 footer.

Mercury packages the 600SCi with a B1/XR drive.

The 700SCi/NXT1 is adding a transmission to the package which is significantly different than a standard B1 derivative.

If you are seriously interested in one; let me know and I will investigate.

i have always thought I wouldn't go beyond a 525 for $$$ and reliability concerns, but if you can get a new baja 26 with the 600sci.....i want my AT to have it too. I just read that the 700NXT1 combo is 200ish pounds lighter than the #6, and was curious if many single engine boats could be outfitted. Im not in the market for a new boat quite yet, so no biggie.

The 700SCi and the NXT1 are only sold together as a package.
The 600SCi is only sold with an XR to my knowledge.

I know of three manufacturers currently on the PR circuit with test mule 700SCi/NXT1 combos on 38-42 foot boats. They are only in twin applications. I don't know if Mercury will sell/support/warranty a 700SCi/NXT1 in a single application at this point. I do know that at least one NXT1 drive has been blown already behind a 700SCi.

Pat has built some 37s with 675-720HP with B1 derivative drives. The 37 currently for sale in the classifieds has pulley to propshaft equiped Teague 720s/drives. RadioActive and Thunderstorm were built with KE 675s and XR type drives. If this is the direction you want; this would probably be your quickest path to that type of power in a 28, provided Pat is comfortable with that type of build. Warranties are available on many of these type of products.

I will talk to Pat, Frank, and/or Jay this week, and ping them on the 600SCi/XR combo.

Cool Re: max HP for a 28?

believe me when I tell ya! the boat would be karrraazzzy with that kind of power. Now I'm not saying it won't handle it, but boy it would be a hand full. I'm think'n long tabs for sure. It might be fun though. there is no room for a tranny. might be able to shoe horn an Ilmore in there that would be cool.

Are you looking for max HP?
Why couldn't you drop 850 matched to an imco or konrad ACE?

There are 28 panteras and 30 activators running w/ that HP.
With a 750hp NA you could cruise at 65. That would be sweet!

Would AT consider building a 28 with twin SBCs? a pair of 450s would be nice too.

Wickedwons 28 saber had a pair of 600hp BBCs in it, but supposedly was scary fast.

I'd say the limit for HP in a 28AT is in the wallet or Pat's say.

There have been 28s built in the past with twins, but with the readily available 500 HP motors available both Mercury and custom, the single is really be best suited setup at the 28.

I have had my 28 for five years and have said for 4 out of the 5 I wish I had more power. I think the boat would be a joy to drive at 700 horse. I will say with the size of the boat as a single that you will need a good drive. If I had the cash laying around a 750 Zul would be a Great candidate.

Said the same when I owned my 28. The boat is definitely capable of more power than the 475hp I had in it. I'd safely say that the 600 from Merc would be the best bet, but we're talking sick money for that motor and lots of maintenance with the SC.

Anything more just wouldn't be safe IMHO.
