This is true. The rougher..the better. But, that being said...it would be nice to run low 80's when needed and cruise @ 55 with lower rpm's. Can't have it all...at least not yet....oh..by the way..what type problems did Rich have w/the whipples?

Spillman, My Tantrum runs 53-55 mph cruise at 3500 and tops out at 70 with a 502 MAG MPI with gil exhaust and a K&N air filter. I tweaked a 26p Bravo One prop til it gave me what I wanted. I'd love to build a 509 or a 540 for it but I'm into it for the reliability. Maybe someday I'll find a 502 that needs some freshening up and build me a nice 500-525 horse motor. As for Richs whipples....I think it was the Coronas

R Addiction, yeah that sounds right....48 @3200rpm, 55 @ 3600, 63 @ 4200, 72 @ wot 4800...but this boat w/ 650+hp should hit 77-78 no? I guess the extra 1000lbs (2nd SBw/B1) takes away about 6mph. If I procharge w/3.5-5psi It should yield a 10-15mph gain...that would be just right. Still need more info on the whipple problems...was it an installation problem...I've heard it's gotta be done JUST RIGHT. Fuel pressure is crucial...also maybe timing & ignition...just a guess.
