BUT, I think the 29 is very close in size & weighs a bit more; but w/twin sb's goes 60-62. Baja 30' w/496 HO's hits 70-71.

I have seen a lot of his other posts. There is ALOT more to that boat than just a 525. X dim changed I think, a box alot of prop work. He has a really nice setup but a ton of $ into it.

That helps explain it. I've been around a few stock 25s, and one with blowers that would not touch that speed on that power.

81 mph? Baja quotes 75 mph for the 525 powered 25OL. Baja´s run conservative x dimensions (6 1/2" prop to pad) on all their boats (which is just fine on lower powered 65 mph massmarket examples). The 25OL has a notched transom, which really doesn´t do much when the prop is buried deep below it..... but add a an 3" raised extension box, a good prop and the whole thing comes alive. Sure, that figure is acheived on nice choppy water, which a fat non step hulls need to get aired out. There is NO hook on my hull. Just two little built in tabs on the outer strakes. At 80 mph, they are pretty dry. Sticky flat water heavy air days are at 78 mph. But which one of you quotes you slowest top speed when asked:rolleyes::rolleyes: I´ll happily take your word on it that the AT28 is the better boat and actually I don´t think (that with Baja´s greedy pricing on blue upgrades) a 26 with a 525 is´possibly similarly priced to the AT. I built mine up myself, for alot less! |

This is a Baja. But it´s not grandpa´s bowrider for sure:D:D
There is pretty much nóthing stock left on it and it runs like a raceboat. What I meant to say in my previous post is that blue powered Baja´s are not good value because the upgrade price is way too high. Baja just doesn´t appear to be interested in that market, which is a shame because they sometimes get it so right. However before I get beaten up by one of you gentle folk, I promise to go looking for an AT28 next time I´m over in the US so I can make a qualified judgement like those of you who have experienced both boats.:cool-smiley-011: |
Nice Baja. The 30' must have had 496Mags, not HO's. The owner was in the boat & we were in my 28AT. People always come over to talk when you have an Active Thunder; they are pretty rare in some parts. He told me his boat went 70-71mph wot, it may have been a few years older.
