My winter projects are turning into a nightmare.

1. Fix Spark Plug Threads #8 on Stbd motor.
2. Send Lifters to Morel for rebuild on Stbd motor.
2. Send drives to Mr. Gadgets due to gear oil turning black. (After Clark rode in the boat BTW.)
3. Found Upper Swivel Pin loose as a goose.
4. Waiting on Ron Bender's upper swivel pin removal kit x2.
5. I need more parts than the space shuttle.
5. I have crap everywhere. :angry-smiley-038:

WOW Tom........that's a pretty expensive looking sparkplug holder you got there,-----but I LIKE IT....I LIKE IT!!! :)

I also like that MARINE KINETICS valve cover sticker you got there too!

Sydwayz 01-22-2009 10:56 AM

You kill me Tom! :D :D Good luck! I can't wait to see your boat on the water again. That's probably one of the best running 32ATs I've ever seen. That boat ATE UP the water around Key West.

Think Merc will warranty it, it's only been 10 years.

Just put a little Elmer's Glue on that pin and it will take up the slack in the clearance and you'll be good to go! :D :food-smiley-007:

Got one of the gimbals off by removing the upper swivel shaft today. Note the hole in the transom assembly that Ron Bender's kit shows you how to do to get access to the upper swivel pin nut and steering arm nut. He provides a plate to put over the hole after the work is done.

I highly recommend those of you with the means to trade in the yacht before it gets to this.

Had to chisel off the swivel pin nut and the steering arm nut due to the corrosion from water leaking around the swivel pin. :angry-smiley-038:

Couple more. Sending the gimbal rings out for repair today.

Had the same thing done last year. The finished product is nice; the SS plates look better than stock over the holes! Plus, it's nice to be able to steer!

Good to hear. Just painful getting through it. I think the full hydraulic steering hid the problem until I took the drives off and discovered the extra movement. I'd like to get a couple AT stickers to stick on the SS plate to dress them up a little.

Question, did you take off the original Merc stickers that end up underneath the plates???

Perlmudder 01-28-2009 08:55 AM

we had a boat that had that problem...ended up selling it before we had to replace it. nice to see someone has made a kit to fix it!

No, but should have. 1 of them is just peeking out on one side. If I was u I would.

I need to pull my drive also. My new gimble ring has been sitting in the spare bedroom for 6 months now. Just don't have time to do it. Really need to get it done before TF200:angry-smiley-038:

Just tighten down on the clamp nuts....:p It calls for 55lbs I'm pretty sure, but with that amount of slop tighten til it strips and back it off a 1/2 turn. Then go get another case of beer:ernaehrung004:

Put a J-R Marine set up on my Tantrum. Ron Bender is a great guy:cool:

That much slack would've taken quite a cheater bar.

Bender is fun to work with. Hopefully going to start getting parts back the next week or two. It was 75 and sunny here on Saturday. Time to get moving before gas gets back to $4.00/gallon.
