Well, Pat and I have decided that we'll let you in on the contest in light of the following news:

We would like to welcome long time OSO member ‘509 SC’ AKA Steve to the Active Thunder family!

I have been working with Steve to set up the perfect 33 Active Thunder Evolution for him and his wife. Concurrently, talks have been in process with Mercury/Mercruiser, and this boat will be powered by a pair of the brand new for 2010 8.2 MAG H.O. (502ci/430HP) power packages. It will also have a new cabin and galley layout for the 33AT, A/C, Norstar and Livorsi Monster gauges, Livorsi controls, and a host of other unique touches, not to mention custom paint.

We look forward to continuing the build with Steve, and having this brand new Active Thunder in Wisconsin this coming year.

Accordingly, we are taking his immaculate 26 Sonic Prowler in on trade. When Steve and I met in Wisconsin a few months ago so I could lay eyes on the boat; I spent 20 minutes going over the boat, and I was just speechless. Having owned a 26 Sonic myself, I was shocked that the only thing Steve could point out as a demerit was 1 tiny scuff on the white rubber rubrail. THAT’S IT. I can only imagine how well this new 33AT will be babied.

Stay tuned the forums as we will post updates to Steve’s 33 Evolution and Jeff’s 37 Excess as time allows.

*Pat and I would also like to thank slboatdrinks for taking 509 SC for a short notice quick blast on his former 33AT Remedy a few weeks back as well.

Welcome to the party Steve!

Wow sounds like a great boat. I hope to order my new 33 in 4 years.lol Congrats. BTW are you guys going to build a 29 AT?

JeffC 01-05-2010 07:54 PM

Congrats Steve!!

ACTIVESHACK 01-05-2010 07:56 PM

Congrats Steve :drink: With that purchase you can probably talk Pat into a couple of sweatshirts even if you lose the contest.

509 SC 01-05-2010 08:45 PM

Well Hi everyone, I'm Steve. I feel like the first time at an AA meeting :drink:! My wife and I are really excited about joining the Active Thunder group (and the new boat). We're really looking forward to meeting other owners and participating in some runs. I'ld also like to thank slboatdrinks for allowing me to go along on the sea trial for the new owners of Remedy, Drew and Brenda. It certainly helped me with the decision to go with a 33. It's been fun following the build process and dealing with Pat. Looking forward to the 2010 boating season! Steve & Liz

Gladhe8er 01-06-2010 04:16 PM

I'm trying to convince my Dad to get the first one! At least I think it will be the first one...

cosmic12 01-06-2010 04:54 PM

1st off Big Congrats on the 33 509, I'm so glad to see one getting built without Blue Motors and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Is it getting this new dash also? Are you doing side or center entry? Good Luck and have fun with the build, its the best part.
:ernaehrung004:

OK........ So whats up with the 29? is it or isn't it?

Sydwayz 01-06-2010 04:58 PM

We have projects in motion for both the 29 and 39. We are looking for the right owner to work with to design the boats to their liking, and continue on from there.

We'll keep this thread focused on Steve's new 33AT.

dennis1009 01-06-2010 06:04 PM

Any pics of Steve's new 33? Sounds like a great boat.

509 SC 01-06-2010 09:09 PM

Cosmic, It's a center entry boat so it's not the new dash which I saw by the way. I have the spy photos and I'm using them to get what I want from Pat, otherwise they'll be all over the press like "Tiger"! Steve

REMEDY 01-07-2010 08:05 AM

Congrats Steve, That was a fun day out there on Buzzard Bay! Can't wait til we can run em side by side! Welcome to the Cult!

Thunderstruck 01-07-2010 10:25 AM

Wow, congratulations. Welcome to the cult.

Thunderstruck 01-07-2010 10:31 AM

So the engine is an aluminum head, closed cooling 502 with catalytic converters?? What kind of drives does it come with that duoprop looking deal??

Those converters gotta come out to make some HP! :lolhit:

Thunderstruck 01-07-2010 11:04 AM

Looks at the merc website. These motors are not the same as the old 502 rotating assbly. New ones are 4.25 stroke x 4.38 bore which I calc 512 ci. Old 502's are 4.00 stroke x 4.447 bore. Plus has 9.1:1 compression. No wonder it makes more torque than old motors, it has a stroker crank!

Wonder if its a new block casting.

Now if we could just bore it and make some 540's.............

DuoProps, please give me a break  It might be the 2010 Recession model but it comes with standard Bravo's Steve

lets see the paint rendering

Don't take offense I don't keep up with the industry. Saw the BII pic on Sydwayz' link and thought that Merc may be making a hi perf BII or something.

chuckbeecher 01-08-2010 04:10 PM

Afteer looking at the Merc site...why not the reg 496 MAGHo with the 425 hp. and no Cadillac Converter..if they're like other converters that's substantial weight.
But glad you getting the boat. you'll luv it!!

Obsolete. GM discontinued the 496 block.

I feel the new 502's represent current technology, aluminum heads, forged internals, drive by wire technology and the latest generation computer technology. The 496 is a great motor but in my mind lacks the superior internal components of the 8.2. It's basicly a de-tuned 525 EFI without the exhaust and cam specs. I'm not crazy about the converter but it's coming to the over 500 horse motors very soon. And as natural resource conserving boaters, don't we all want to do our part to help the enviroment! :drink: Steve

It's a 9/10's scale version of Wildcard! Since the design was shrunk, Pat said we didn't have to change anything on the graphics :lolhit: Actually, we're not quite done yet with the design. I can tell you one thing, it gonna be red! Steve

No doubt, your motors are a much better platform than the 496 is. As they get into the marketplace somebody will take those motors and make a ton of hp with them with aftermarket upgrades. Do you know what block the 8.2 has??

Thunderstruck 01-09-2010 05:41 AM

What speeds are we predicting? My guess is 83.

Yep! And a solid 80 all day any day!

Gonna be a sweet setup. And a fraction to insure it vice having blue motors.

dennis1009 01-09-2010 10:22 AM

This is going to be a beautiful set up. I am really starting to like the red and silver color scheme. Im two years away from ordering my new A T. Looking forward to the build process. Unless I hit the lotto expect a call. lol. Congrats and post pics as soon as available.

Are all boat engines going to have convertors now?

I think for 2010 all motors up to 500HP have convertors, and over 500HP in 2012? Steve
