You need to know it's a BYOB forum though. :drink: |
Just kidding! Better post this before everyone gets their panties all bunched up...
The spirit of this thread is Just For Fun, and most of the time you guys are just that; a lot of fun. But this thing has sure taken us down an ugly path, and I have to agree with Darren that this isn't quite the image I enjoy reading about when LEOPA's name comes up. Todd, Darren, Rick, Laszlo... I've ridden on your boats and ran along side of most of the rest of you. We're ALL out there to hang it out on the edge on any given day. Some days you get there first, other days someone else does. Nature of the beast, and even of the time of the season. But at the end of the day, we're all SUPPOSED to sit down, have a drink, and relish the fact that we made it, in one piece, and we're alive to duke it out once again. This LEOPA Fall Run was truly a Great Time, perfect water, mostly decent weather, and we wrapped up the day with a fun party. Let's leave it at that. Sincerely, Brian Bunch 2010 LEOPA Commodore ..and Darren, don't you be gettin smart over there... I'll have Marcum kick that whimpy little azz of yours up one side and down the other! |
Brian,
I think you're wrong when you say it's taken an ugly path. Actually you have a few 'spirited' members in your club that like to push the envelope. Now you just have to calm them down a bit. Now is the time for the organizers of your event as well as the members to realize it's popularity as well as it's liability. I am friends with both Marc Blondin that ran the Smoke On The Water event on your west coast and Stu Jones that runs most of our events down here in Florida. History tells us what happen to SOTW. But how soon we really forgot. Stu has a horse-shoe up his azz but REALLY practices preaching safety like never before. Perhaps at the driver's meetings let's re-live some of the incidents like SOTW and the Texoma Nashville Cat tragedy to name a few. Get the boys to the Captain's meeting before they get to the bar. Then get some positive reinforcement on the docks the morning of the run. Your boys that support you have given you the floor thru these forums. Time for your fellow boaters, friends and families to work on a safe and memorable event! I wish you the best. |
Hello Pat,
Ok, maybe ugly was a little harsh, but I wouldn't exactly call it rosy. I know these guys pretty well... been boating with them for a whole lot of years. "Spirited?" Yup, I'll give you that one. I've known Marc and Cherie also for quite some time; raced with GLSCS when Marc was a promoter, and Cherie was our Risk Manager. I was also there that day in 2006 when Risk Management took on a whole new meaning. Rest assured that we stress running safe: adequate vests and kill switch lanyards, as well as preaching no alcohol for the drivers with different colored wrist bands to back it up. ...and all of this reinforced at the morning Drivers Meeting. Rick and Dino deserve top-notch Kudo's for this event, as well as a long list of others prior to this one. They bring in the Coast Guard, or the Sheriff, or the Border Patrol to the morning meeting to discuss safety and regional and international laws affecting us for the day and beyond. We get safety, and I don't think any of us would argue that. I'm just trying to curtail my "boy's" sword-fighting so gallantly in a public forum. Hoping they will keep their swords in their pants and use them later in the evening when they may actually do someone some good. Touche' Brian |
Seems to me, (who wasn't there) that all was good until some certain somebody decided to put their thumbs under their suspenders...all in good fun of course. You go poken' fun and somebody's gonna' take you seriously.

I've seen the video from the run and the one thought going thru my mind was if anyone of you puked a drive or lost an engine at 100 with the other boats in such close proximity it would be a disaster. I bet Brian thought the same thing as well. Hence the post. Just hangin' in the left field! |
