I participated in a demonstration "race" on Lake George(NY) on Saturday and Sharkey got some awesome pics of the boat in action. Check them out!

Great shots by Tim! Well done Pete! Did you "demonstrate" a win? :D

Tell us more about the event. That 28 looks agressive on the "race course."

This is the 2nd year of the event(I missed last year). It is put on by Performance Marine(Fast Fun 2's Dad's shop) who builds the Saris Racing motors. As many of you know, Lake George is a huge tourist area, and they created this event to not only show the town what a "race" looks like, but also to get people into a town a week earlier than the official "season" starts. Considering LG is heavily regulated as far as noise(90 DB) and speed(45 MPH), this is the only time many of us can run our boats on the lake as they lift the bans for 6 hours(whoop-dee-doo). There was also a boat and car parade down Canada St(the main rd thru LG)on Friday night. My rig ended up on the Albany news.

There were 3 speed groups(65 MPH, 75, 85). We ran one set of races from 12-1:30 and another set of races from 2:45-4:00. You could run your boat in more than 1 class if you wanted to. A big 35 Formula was the pace boat for all groups. You were not supposed to go over the speed you signed up for.

I ran in the 65 MPH speed group both times and kept up with the pack for the most part considering I had the least power of any boat in my class. The course was a 2 mile oval and we were instructed to try and mix up the leader each time we came around to the south end where all the spectators were watching. To the average person, it looked really cool with 8 boats running within a couple hundred yards of each other. There were supposed to be about 30-40 boats, but only about 16 showed up due to the weather. It rained right up until the start and then the sun came out for the rest of the day.

Boats in my class:
silver 28 Pantera: 650 HP Boyd Motorworks
28 Pantera(flag graphics): twin 525's
White 28 Pantera - Miller Lite: 650 HP Saris racing motor
Saris Racing Avanti: 550+ HP Saris racing motor
28 Velocity-not sure on power but was fast. They had to get towed in after race 2...not sure what happened.
29 Scarab: 825 HP D'amico racing engine
26 Sutphen: twin 225 Promax
35 Fountain red/white/blue: twins

75 MPH class:
29 Fountain with twins
10M Fountain white/blue("Louie the Rigger" of Strictly Business race teams personal boat)
32 Sunsation: single 525 Whipple - 750+ HP.
Saris racing 27 Kryptonite: 700 HP Saris racing motor
35 Fountain(yellow Purple): twins

85 MPH class:
36 Nortech cat twin 700's: did not run in race 1 because of water pump. they got it fixed before race 2 though
29 Profile cat: 1000 HP Saris racing motor
42 Fountain PR: twin 850 HP Saris Racing motors

It was an awesome time and everything went off without a hitch. Great way to start the season!

Looks like the weather was great.

Dr. Dans Pantera. He boats with us on the Chesapeake Bay. Looks like you had a blast Pete. Are you planning on JOTJ?

Poured rain Thursday, Friday and Saturday up until the start(noon). Then the sun was out the rest of the day!

My brother almost bought that Pantera but couldn't get decent insurance. I have my rooms booked for JOTJ, but not sure I can make it just yet...

Do they make you wear those helmets?

Yes, since it is a simulated "race" you have to wear helmets, life jackets and lanyards. I just grabbed a couple of my snowmobile helmets.

While a helmet is cumbersome in a race, and you wonder why you wear it in a boat, if things go wrong it is a good barrier between the head and that 'unsoft' dash, deck, etc.

I applaude them for their efforts.

Gotta say I hate a helmet though.
