Actually the reason the pushrod came out is because the valve stuck in the guide. The 525 has a small amour of reversion on 7 & 8 cyl at idle. That causes carbon to stick to the valve stem and eventually it will stick, causing the valve head to hit piston and bend the valve. Common problem with the 525, they all do it, usually between 250 to 300 hours. Also the exhaust flange of the head will probably be very corroded. You are still missing because the valve is bent. The valve springs merc uses are marginal at best further causing this problem. When I do the 525 cylinder heads I hone the exhaust guides for a little more clearence. I also use a looser valve seal on the exhaust side to allow more oil down the guide. Coupled with a much better spring and retainer package.
