I'll be curious about the results of the lower change

Pwraddr 06-07-2014 10:56 PM

What props are on it?

From his testing, what i've been told with the shorter lowers. "92.2 @5300 with worked 5 bladed maximus. Jumps on plane and cruise was 3200= 50 mph. Better cruise and handling than 4 bladed bravos which are a little faster but blow out with the new gearcases and make boat feel loose.

Boat is getting picked up Today to begin the trip Home! If the weather holds, we'll be doing the Clint Memorial run on the Bay this weekend.

Actually that would be correct. The hyrdrodynamics of these gearcases really make the boat stable and allow using 5-bladers without the speed going in the toilet.

Plus rigging with the new 565s will be easier since we can drop the engine down for fit.

They look like sportmaster lower. I there any difference to a sportmaster lower? I gather this is a new lower design and its a shorty?

RTFM:

Bravo One XR® Sport Drive

...not to be confused with the XR Sport Master; two different products.

In general, do these boats respond well to shorties?

509 SC 06-10-2014 09:38 PM

Andre,
Just a heads up on your trailer, those open center caps that Manning uses on there trailers hold water inside because they fit tight against the hub. You might want to consider removing them and drilling about 6 1/4" holes around the outside, so in any position the water drains right out. My wheels were ruined by the time I took delivery of our boat, the salt water from testing, got under the clear cote and turned the area around the lugs black. FYI
Steve

Thanks for the heads up :)

To Pwraddr:

Most shortees out there are 'surface riding'. In other words the bullet is designed to be on top of the water, not pushed thru it. No way that is happening on our V-bottom.

The new lowers from Merc Racing are designed to run thru the water like a Bravo but allow us to raise the X and gain the friendliness that the 5 bladders give us as well as a new design on the water intakes for the added pressure the new engines and their monitoring systems need.

I ran Bravo lowers, Imco lowers and the new Bravo Sports. It ran fine with the first two and I played with all brands and types of props to see what would work. The Sports with some tweeked 32 Maxis made me the most comfortable at 90+ as well as the midranges and coming out of the hole.

I really would have liked to pop them on the 37-565 boat here just to see how it effected this boat but 'somebody' had to go on a poker run this weekend and wanted their boat. :party-smiley-004:

I see.

Do you think there are any speed gains with them on a 525 37?

Well the AC really pumps. We slept well. I just need a coffee maker for the morning and I think we are gonna add a couple inches of that egg foam mattress cushion that you can cut to fit and it'll be perfect.:D

Man...you should have asked for the coffee maker! Pat probably still has the one Brian put in my boat laying around covered in dust somewhere. As it is, I still have the cutout for it glued to my countertop. It does a good job holding a handle of rum when we are in the slip...

Totally did the egg-crate thing too...works very well...

That's because you're thrown out of the house for buying a side entry without a swim platform!

trex232 07-11-2014 07:38 AM

drejustice have you brought the boat back to VA

drejustice 07-14-2014 08:52 AM

Yup the boat is back up in the Wash DC area. We visited St. Michaels for the 1st time ever with the AT serving as our Condo on the water complete with shade and loungers ;) The ride back crossing the Bay was Fun. 15 Knot winds from the south with gusts to 20 created water with big rolling 3's the whole way. Boat handed it fine :)
