Lol, yeah...:) Need to finish mounting hardware, install interior, wire bilge, mount and layout fuel system, install new thru hulls, navigation lights, put down new floor, dyno engine and write new EFI tunes, install engines and rigging. Right around the corner. I'll probably just run the Panther on the weekends for a while. I'm a one man band.

Rookie 04-07-2021 09:38 PM

Well why not... Seeing that there are not many reasonably priced used 380 plates out there and I'm not willing to spend $1348 for new. I have an extra set of 280 plates laying around. So might as well add to them. I'll clean up the welds before paint. :)

Also curious to see how my hardware is going to turn out after an over night soaking. I have had good results on mufflers and props.

I know no one cares about today's progress update. Everyone is more curious about how my stainless turned out.
I just wiped the parts down with a blue shop towel after 24hrs of soaking. It does not remove scratches...
So, there are 6 anchors for the tabs. 2 thru-hulls, 3 threaded bolts and 1 lag screw? (last pic)

Nice work going on there. I'm getting started on all of my stainless tomorrow. I've got the dual shaft buff motor ready to go with 2 new buff wheels on it ready for some compound.

Rookie 04-11-2021 07:39 PM

Finished up the majority of the back of the transom. New stainless drain plugs and yes, the lag screw does go to the trim tab mounts. It mounts directly behind the stringer so a thru bolt can't be use. Also installed 2 new Rule 1100 27SA bilge pumps. Don't know how I feel about them. They do not use a float switch. They use Rule "Smart Technology" and power on every 2.5 minutes and sense for resistance. Also cutout new high temp silicone exhaust seals.

I can tell you about those pumps, do yourself a favor and get rid of them. I have tried them twice in different sizes and both time get about 1 year out of them. In my boat you have to pull headers off to replace.

And the worst thing, 3 of the 4 failed ON,,,,,, meaning they killed the batteries.

1 bottle Dollar tree Rust Lime Calcium remover and 1 bottler Lime Away bowl cleaner. I use the bowl cleaner all the time when wiping down/cleaning stainless. The other stuff was to "water" it down for soaking purposes. The bowl cleaner is more like a gel.

Not much to update. Got a reference point for my moisture meter. Which correlated real well. The 001% is the side of the hull that was repaired with 1/2" balsa. Replaced all of the plastic thru hulls and plastic tank vents. Only one more to replace. Hard time finding the right size. Just ordered new engine hatch mirrors. Vacuumed and cleaned all the wires and cables in the bilge. Might have to paint the cockpit next. Will see how it looks after all the interior and seadeck flooring is in.

The stainless hoses look very nice on there and I did the same thing with the speaker hole myself. There was no way I could reach that nut up front on the panel stud. I bought new steering hose and chrome plated brass fittings for my steering as well. Also sent my brass 90's to the plating shop and had them chromed. They were super inexpensive @ $4.00 each to plate, because they can run them with other jobs. I you ever want anything like that done let me know. and I will put you in contact.

I'd love to get chrome on there, but I might not even have enough time to get my throttles redone. Once summer is here I might lose interest and just break out the Panther. lol

bencini231 04-28-2021 09:42 PM

It's funny you mention throttles... I had my throttle base plate and knobs refinished and I polished out the chrome handles. Finally got around to assembling them and saw the new billet Livorsi cant forward controls and ended up ordering them. Mine sold within a few hours and brought almost what cost is on new ones.

Thanks Heath!
Got a little sidetracked. Had to do a quick emergency re-bearing on the 2nd engine. (non dyno'd engine) Saturday night, while the oil pan was off and I was replacing the cam on the engine. I decided to take a quick peak at the middle main bearing. To my surprise it looked terrible. (<20hrs on rebuild) I tore it down Saturday night and had it back together Tuesday night. Last time I had run the engine was the end of 2019. I was running up river at Hot Boat and threw a sea pump belt. I noticed the engine was a little off. I looked at my gauges and my water and oil temp was around 230-240°F. I shut it down and idle back on one engine. Brought the boat home fired it up and winterized the engines. Everything ran great during the winterization and I thought nothing of it it again. While the engines have been sitting in the shop while I painted and transom'd the boat I did a leak down. They were 8-11% cold and not fired for over a year. I also cut open the filter and the pleats were clean. In the bottom of the oil pan there was a black sludge and that drew my curiosity to pull the main. I have never seen any sludge in one of my engines. That Oil was toast!
I can't wait for this Holley EFI with all the alarms and limp modes to protect an engine!

I assume old failure/repair from previous owner. I believe he mentioned it before I bought it. My machine shop checked it out before they balanced it with my components. They said it was true and had no issues with me running it.

Second engine on the run stand and all wired up. I flashed the 2nd ECU with new firmware and loaded the Master dyno file from the 1st engine. Will fire it up tomorrow and break in the "refresh" and hopefully have the engines in this weekend.

Got a lot accomplished today. Got the engines set in. Had to spend quite a bit of time aligning the the gimbal bearing into the coupler. The outer stringers were replace so no holes were drilled. Had to get everything aligned, bolts tightened and C-clamped the mounts to the new stringers. then drilled out the holes.
Now need to plumb the new fuel system, wire the whole EFI system in and freshen up drives.

This thing is looking awesome and has been a great thread. I'm really looking forward to seeing it completed and in the water.

Rookie 07-22-2021 08:46 PM

Slow progress. Realizing that my engines were originally out of my Panther I needed to build new engine wire harnesses, order all new Gaffrig senders, run/build all new oil lines and fuel system. wired analog/digital systems. (EFI) also new gimbal bearings. The rigging is so time consuming now that everything has to be wired nice and neat with proper planning. I bought so many -AN brackets, couplers, zip ties, hose/wire holder thingy mounts... I'm also moving batteries to level out the boat. It lists terribly to the starboard side. I plan to work on it all day tomorrow and maybe Saturday. Should be able to hopefully fire them next week.
During this time Valako (JimV) and I also moved out of our shop.

I have more pics of progress I'll add.

Well, work has been over the top busy and I haven't had a chance to work on EM. Lucky for me I have a brother that has spent all of his 4th of July weekend helping me get EM back together. He put the transom together while I finished redoing hoses and wiring. Hopefully tomorrow I will drop it in at the ramp and check for leaks.

I'm living on the water through everyone on the boating sites until next year when the wife will be able to get out on the boat again. Until then mines a garage queen.. lol.

Rookie 07-18-2022 10:31 PM

Well, things never go as planned. I never got to splash the boat on Tuesday. But, fret not... I thought it would be a great idea to travel from West Michigan to upper state NY with an untested boat for the 1000 Island's Poker Run. I have a friend that is a sponsor that invited me to bring my boat up and run it. My brother and I traveled there on Wed knowing I had a couple days to do a couple minor fixes if necessary, When I woke up Thursday I couldn't remember if I had engaged the Bravo shift cable into the drives. The shifters felt too free when moved. We tore off the drives and sure enough they were not engaged. (I'm a TRS guy there are no shift cables) Backed the boat into the water and started the STBD engine (non dyno'd engine) and thee re were fuel leaks galore at the NPT threads. I thread PTFE sealant all of my threads. Apparently that did not work. I then teflon taped all the thread and they sealed right up. Even the push-loc barbed fuel hose leaked on the vacuum side before the pump. Next my barbed nipple on my cross-over was pouring out water. (Had a spare replacement with me) Besides an oil drip on a -10 hose that was all of the issues I had. We ran the first 2 legs of the run to the lunch stop and then just went out cruising and site seeing. I was the last boat (slow) we ran mostly 47-49 mph. Brought it up to 60's for a bit. Didn't want to chance too much on the 2 new rebuilds and copied Holley tune. They engine that was not tuned on the dyno use twice as much fuel as the engine that was dyno'd. I need to hook it up to the computer this week and do a data log to find out the issue. Also I need to tune the in gear idle. That might just be TPS reset. All in all it was a success.

Thanks, I believe we put 50-60 miles on it and drove it back on to the trailer at the end of the weekend. I consider that a win.
