Chris, what an absolutely amazing “refresh,” Remedy looks better than new Im sure! I will most certainly be using a few of these fine details for a reference when the time comes to give Stealin’ Thunder a little attention.(Hopefully sooner than later) Only question I have would be is if you are going to have to mess with the bottom at all with the extra horsepower or can it be dialed in with props just as easily?

I have a few people helping me on this side of things and I think we are going to be able to use props and drive spacers to get to where we need to be. Thank you for the compliment and you should bring Stealin' Thunder down to Kuttawa Cannonball Run this year. It looks like we are going to have quite a few AT's there this year.

Finally everything is together and ready for a shakedown run. Here's a few shots I got after Eddie and Travis finished up setting the indicators and drives.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7a1b16eeb9.jpg

Any new news from the shakedown runs? assuming it has been is the water.

bencini231 03-23-2022 09:43 AM

Weather was not up to par for a bit there towards the end of Feb. Earlier this month Eddie ran it on the hose and discovered a bad agi box which would make a few gauges quit working for a split second. Mercury sent the wrong one and we will be getting the new one in a day or so. Also they had the gates wide open on old hickory lake because of water level, so that was pulling trash into the channel. We could've ran with the bad agi box, but didn't want to chance tearing something up by hitting something in the water. Weather and and lake water is looking good for next week. I will be updating this as soon as we get a chance to run it. We are trying out herring, hydromotive and maximus props that are all 5 blade 34 pitch.

Slalonde24 03-23-2022 01:40 PM

Which gauges did you have not working? I notice my oil pressure gauges and I other one that I can recall right now occasionally wont read anything and I believe it throws an alarm on my smartcaft but it instantly clears itself every time. However when I read oil pressure through smartcraft theres never an issue. Wondering if maybe I also have a bad agi unit.

F-2 Speedy 03-23-2022 02:03 PM

those nose cones are pretty close to the trailer ?

There is about 1 inch of distance between the tip of the nose cone and the trailer. When the 1/2 inch drive spacers were installed it was really close. Also my winch strap is marked so that it sit in the same position every time when loaded. The pics are kind of deceiving on how close it actually is and it's actually plenty of room there if looking in person.

It was the oil pressure gauge, tach for sure and maybe one more. One of my boxes had been replaced already a few years ago. I would say yours is probably the agi box as well, since the alarm clears itself instantly since there is no fault remaining. Also when reading through smartcraft it won't show any drops when it happens, due to it not being read through the agi box. My gauge screen on the garmin had no issues on the gauges when the drops happened.

Well. Eddie finally had good weather and water conditions to get her out on the water yesterday. He sent me a text saying shes fast and 100mph is easy, since I was at work. I called after I got off work and he told me it took a minute to get the trim and tab settings right since it was the first time he had ran the boat. Him and Travis were out doing the usual shakedown runs to make sure everything was ok, then he did some speed runs. She ended up at 108 mph with about 400 rpms to go, so I need to have a little work on the props to get that right. He said the 34p 15 1/8 short hub Maximus really worked good at all ranges and if FJ propeller could keep the same pitch and gain rpms on blade work then they would be perfect. I was told that a tick below neutral is all that was needed on tab and she was straight as a arrow and at 2900 rpms she is running at 65 mph cruise. I've got herring and hydromotive 34p 5 blades to try as well. He said a few more mph could've been had with a longer area to run it in, but old hickory lake on a busy day only has so much room to run wide open. I pretty excited with the results for sure and just see the hull worked great with this setup is awesome, especially since a few people said I would run out of hull or need work on the step. Now to get her home and finish a few small things before Memorial day weekend.

Congrats! Those are some good numbers. The cruise speed is what I would be most excited about. I must be getting old. lol

Yes sir, I am going to love that gas sipping cruise speed @ $4 plus a gallon for 93 octane. I guess I've got eco mode and sport mode depending on throttle position..lol

Since everything is finally finished at Young Performance Marine I went and picked her up on Thursday last week. I am overly pleased with the work by Eddie and Travis. Here's 2 pics from before I left and one from in front of my shop at home.

A while back I started searching for the coolant tank covers from Mercury. After no luck finding them used there was no way I was going to pay what they want for new ones. I remembered F&M Custom Cowlings used to make them for the 496's so I thought I'd see if he had ever made any for a 525 EFI. Luckily he had made some, but was no longer producing any of that stuff. After talking for a few minutes he said let me check in his old shop and came back to me with a pair of coolant tank covers as well as the coolant tank cap covers. They were originally polished stainless, so I had them powder coated in candy blue to match the motors. Here's a before and after pic.

That's true, but I had to weld the seams on the corners from the bending and shaping, It made them look way more finished after that. That was the reason for powder coating them. Yes, sir we are going to get a for sure date to come to Table Rock to get out and run these girls this year. Who knows we might have more people on here want to join in on coming there.

bencini231 06-12-2022 01:23 AM

It's been a while since I updated tis thread, so I thought I'd add some info and pics. First day we finally got her back on the water after a long 1 1/2+ yrs was Memorial Day weekend. Did a little cruisng and hanging out as well as a few speed runs and I'm loving the power in these motors. Just getting in it at a 60mph cruise and really quick your looking at 90+ mph really quick. With both tanks full and 4 people with coolers as well, we hit 108 mph and had more to go. Since everything is new and on break in time we only got to run it up and get back down in mph. I was curious how the hull would act over 100 mph, but she handles like she's on rails. Just smooth and flat with no chine walking or anything of that nature. Her's a few random pics from cleaning her up at home, to getting ready to head to the lake and finally on the water again. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e84cc645d2.jpg

Well we haven't done very much in the way of boating or anything else since my wife's wreck back in June. I pulled Remedy out a few weeks ago and got all the winterizing finished, so she's good until next year. Also had a friend call me from the local embroidery shop and told me he had something I needed to pick up. Well I get there and he had a piece of black carbon fiber vinyl with the AT logo embroidered on it in the perfect size for my Isotta steering wheel. I took a sometime yesterday afternoon to get it installed and it turned out great I think. Also there will be a few more small updates towards spring that we are looking forward to finishing up.

My local screen printer / embroidery shop in Paducah. He does commercial accounts, but since I know him he helps me out. Give me a ring or send me a text if you need something.

That should be pretty easy for him to take care of and I have plenty of black carbon fiber vinyl so I've got that covered for you.

bencini231 03-19-2023 10:39 PM

Well I've been reading and watching many people with power levels a little lower than mine and having issues with the Imco SC lowers. Finally made a few calls to verify some of the issues they were having and thought to myself I really dont want to chance anything and wreck a nice new pair of Imco SCX uppers if my SC lowers break. I sent my Uppers back to Imco and had them mount the dual downshaft lowers with a 2 inch spacers and 1 7/16 propshafts. Only reason for having them mount the lowers is they run them on their dyno and send them full of oil and peace of mind if anything goes wrong it lessens it being my fault. Also learned the SCX combo is rotaation specific during this swap. I think we will be pretty well taken care of now since we have Drive Gaurdians and now full SCX drives. Brad @ IMCO took great care of us and got everything shipped to us in less than 2 weeks. Remedy will be heading back to Eddie Young's in a few weeks for drive install and a little pulley swap on the 3.8's for a little power boost. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...70b1ca9017.jpg

I would say it has something to do with the dual downshaft lowers, because Brad asked in my props spin in or out before they put them together. It suprised me when he asked that and they are marked on the tags LH and RH rotation.

Ok yea that would make sense where gear is on the propshaft.

Eddie and Travis getting the new SCX combo on and bleeding air from the trim rams, since we added spacers to them.

Finally got 2 more pieces finished this week. I had removed the compass from the dash and put a gauge blank in it place during the makeover. Since all my gauges have bezels around them I decided to have the blank milled down to fit the bezel and after it was finished I had it powdercoated, as well as dropped of to the local laser engraving shop to have the logo added. Also got lucky over the winter and found a hach ram cover from a fountain that covers the sleve and motor both. I had to have a new sleeve portion made since the ram it was used on was shorter. Got that piece of pipe made, then it was off to the powdercoating shop and added the logo to it as well.

I really like them from what time I have on them, especially not having to worry about failures in the lowers. I can't tell there is any speed loss swapping from the SC lowers to the SCX lowers, like some people talk about having issues with. This girl likes to ride on top of the water and with the high X dimension those 34p 5 blades would take a toll on the SC lowers in a short amount of time. I also went with the 1 7/16 prop shaft on mine, just for peace of mind as well.

Thank you and Nikki is making sure we have a great summer this year, taking into consideration where we were last year!! I'm thinking we can make that happen this year for sure. That would be a fun get away for us.

Thanks!! I've asked many people about the SCX DDS lowers and they are the best upgrade you can get before you step into the bigger drives. Lots of people running these with big hp and no failures to be spoken of from everyone I've talked to. I figured if i lost a lower and it took the upper with it then Im out quite a bit of cash thats not far off from the SCX package. That was my reasoning for adding these behind the 3.8 whippled 525's and the drive guardian.
