Default Shorty drive on 27 Victory

Has anyone put a 2" shorty on a 27 Victory. If so, how does it perform. I have one with a 540 and I am not where I want to be as far as speed goes. I haven't measured yet, but it looks like the drive is awful deep in the water. Thanks

I am curious also if anyone has experience. I have 680hp and started out with a 28p bravo prop and it was too much. I went to 26p and still too much and will end up around 24p per bblades. The drive seems pretty deep in the water.

I would think it will respond very well to a shortie drive. Mine has twins, I added boxes and raised the drives 2.5 (wish I would have went more) and the boat handles excellent and I picked up a bit of speed. Hard to tell the exact amount but is was still 5+ if I had to guess.

The boat handled great in the rough before (lake MI), now it handles like a much larger boat.

Here's my info from the Drives forum. Let me know if you guys have any other questions

Advantage27,
When my 27 had 620 hp, I was running a -2 lower with labbed 25 and 26 props running 72-74 just for reference. Raising the drive up will usually pick up a couple hundred rpm since the prop isn't loaded as hard, allowing you to run a little bit bigger prop. The hydromotive Q-IV-X is also a really good prop on this boat.

thanks ToMorrow44,
Thats good info to know. Before my new engine I had a 23p hydro QIV-X and it did well.

Did you get that boat out yet snapmorgan? Curious if the -2 helped & if you were able to p/u some rpms for a bigger prop.

Did some testing this weekend. the -2" Imco picked up a solid 4mph. Tried a labbed 24 B1, a 24 Hydromotive and a stock 24B1. All 3 props ran within .5mph top end, however the stock B1 was 4mph faster at 4000rpm cruise. I can blow the prop out at will taking off, but the overall performance is pretty good with the shorty. I experienced no ill handling, but was only running 66 and some change.
