Ill tell ya I would take 100 feet of snow over one of these monster hurricanes any day of the week. The sheer panic that sets in anymore is amazing, fuel lines miles long on every block everywhere, home depot lines as long winding through the parking lot, just mass chaos for most of it, Thats why a good disaster plan and backup items bought during normal times is the best case scenario.
But yes its convienent when you can drop the boat at the ramp january 1 and take a nice cruise somewhere in a sweat shirt.
LOL but you know ALL about that dont cha bubba?
You coming down this winter?

Hey Jay, are you able to get "wind" insurance on the Apache? And what do you do with it when the hurricanes come?

Re: Houston we have a problem over !!!!!

Im waiting for Bill Mazzoni to finish his new building and im going to move the boat in there for safe indoor keeping.
Im STILL having issues with this insurance crap. Now this place I went to that did offer me wind insurance is saying I have to finance the insurance amount for the year rather than just making normal payments like anything else. Its not that I cant do it but I wont on principal and the 23% interest rate they want they can go jump in a ditch!
So now the $ has worked its way up almost another grand in finance fees and documentation fees and administrative fees and all this other hokey Bullchit!
This plan offered wind insurance on the boat too which was nice but im just getting really frustrated with this whole florida insurance thing. Maybe its time to move back to PA and pay a normal insurance company a normal rate and use the boat a few months out fo the year and that will be that.

Yea, I kind've heard that the insurance market really took a hit after Katrina in Fl. and getting wind ins. is close to impossible. But if you have a fairly good indoor storage that is supposed to withstand a large hurricane then I guess like M.M. said, "Liability" baby!

We toy with the idea of moving out to maybe Ft. Lauderdale or Islamorada or something. But that is one of my main concerns.

Total Dollar is taking care of me, John Posey has my back, Finalizing a few details that are minor and that hurdle will have been taken care of. Have not gotten down to the boat in the last few weekends since it rains every saturday and sunday. Going to try again tomorrow but weather permitting. Hell I have not cut my lawn in 2 weeks from all the rain, its nuts. That also reminds me I need to talk to Bill soon to see what the status of Fort Mazzoni is!

No John is the insurance agent, No one wrenches on my boat but me PERIOD. If I need help then I get Herb Stotler on the phone. Oh holy one would be the only one I would contract for "boat stuff" Herb "engine Stuff" if it was something I could not do myself but so far for the most part there has not been anything yet.
And yes I damn skippy would tow my apache to PA for Ike to work on it and then Tow it back to FL.
Thats Loyalty and trust for ya right there in black and white.

No mark not interested, this is a relatively minor problem not requiring 40-50 grand worth of engines thanks though
J

Did this minor problem get fixed yet? I'm just wondering if you ended up tearing down that engine and where the lifters disappeared to!! That sounds really strange to me and also, if the lifters where gone  how did the pushrods look fine?

Jay13

Jay-If I am to understand thisyou had 2 rocker arms break off at the mounting allowing the lifters to find their way into the valley. I would be suspect of all the rockers and would have them all serviced with new rocker mountings pressed into the heads. The supercharged engines produce higher cylinder pressures and put stress on the rockers and their mountings.

Re: Houston we have a problem over !!!!!

That is correct mostly but these are what are known as shaft mount Rocker Arms from Jessel, not the cheap ones either. The carriers that the shafts bolt to is what broke.
I am going to replace all of the lifters and push rods, the one carrier on the one side that broke and use all new ARP bolts and lock tite to hold it all together.
Thats the plan anyway........... If I can ever get around to working on the stupid thing. Damn woman has me cutting granite and marble for the upstairs bathroom.
GRRRRRRRRRRRR cant go on the war path cause im stuck in the bathroom!!!!

Just about
Got some surgery last friday and doing some light work around the house
xmas lights and other crap (weird being in shorts, no shirt hanging xmas lights on palm trees) but I might try to get the boat home this weekend and tear down the top half and find out any and all issues with this engine and get to Herb's to get some parts but depends on how I feel.

Re: Houston we have a problem over !!!!!

Yeah I over Revved the thing while I was idling up the ICW. Started to load up and I popped it up to about 6200 or so and well it gave way.
Lesson learned.
Next to install is rev limiters to prevent this from happening again.

Re: Houston we have a problem over !!!!!

I wouldnt think rapping on it would do that.atleast not 6200.My Camaro has less valve train than yours, I clean it out at 7500 before making a pass every time.
