Rob, you are killing me. My plain white boat already looks boring sitting next to yours at the Marina. Now you are at it again! You are gonna force me to paint some kind of design on mine, aren't you? :D That boat of yours is absolutely incredible! I can't wait to see it when it comes home this time!!

Re: '' Sacred Ground " back in the paint shop
It's great to see that boat being used, show us when she comes out of the paint shop.

Re: '' Sacred Ground " back in the paint shop
41 Apache, rough water & some friends having a good time......life is good!
|
Re: '' Sacred Ground " back in the paint shop
Some of the paint work is going to be:
painting the black hatches on the deck white repainting around the engine hatches, chips, etc. remove Apache-41 from the top sides near the tansom-to much there painting drives, gimbals, tabs, etc. thinking about remove the "33" from the deck only-thoughts? I thought by doing so the deck would look cleaner last is to apply 10 coats of clear to the whole top side so it will look like the sides and shine like a mirror keep you posted~ |
Re: '' Sacred Ground " back in the paint shop
That boat looked great in KW and the headstones are classic.
You need to add more names. |
Rob and I went to Bay Performance today to drop off both his 21 and my 45. Rob brought the 41 (Sacred Ground) home with him today and all I can say is that his boat is absolutely incredible. Even all of the little details are perfect. And talk about a shine!! I'll let him post the pictures, but it ranks right up there with the best of them now. It's brand new again and maybe even better than new!

FAAAAAAWK I love that boat...Straight sick!!
|
Your boat looks great!! it has lots of personality in it. removing the "33" from the deck will make it look even better. Just my opinion:p

here's the play by play of where they're at: Our customer brought us this Apache 41' with the full intention of doing a full blown restoration. The list of modifications is long and will include a full cap of the entire boat, a new dash, new transom, as well as fixing 41 feet of wavy sides. It is a major undertaking and will be a several month process that will get its final paint job from Billy B in Upland, CA. The plans for the boat include two Gentry 1,500 hp twin turbo motors, number 6 drives, and a custom interior. We are excited about the opportunity to work on a project of this magnitude and can't wait to see the final result. Follow along as we begin the work. We began the process by doing a full tear down. The boat was rumored to be an old drug running boat, and hundreds of gallons of extra fuel tanks points to that being very true. All of the hardware including all of the tanks and internal hardware must came out before we can begin the repairs. Once this process is finished we will plan out our course of action on fixing all of the issues. With hundreds of holes to patch, the filling and sanding process is in full swing. Every hole, crack, scratch, and chip is being repaired. The process of capping the boat has also been started and all of the glass has been laid, with sanding to follow. The old dash configuration did not allow for any type of large instrumentation or a GPS unit so a new dash extension has been built and will be completely filled with gel coat to look like it was part of the original design in the boat. The entire transom has been reworked and filled to allow for a new exhaust setup and the tank area has been sanded and filled to give room for new style tanks. The grinding continues as we get closer and closer to getting the side of the boat straight. The more we work, the more issues we are finding that need to be corrected. The new dash extension has been completely molded in and we re-glassed the outer shell of the hatches. We are almost finished getting all of the low spots and waves out of the side. Progress is slow, but steady. |

The re-build is being done by a very well respected place called Islander Marine. A sleeper shop out here that produces some amazing work. They're kind've known for working on Schiada's but have put their talents into various boats and from what I've seen of the amazing work they've turned out in the past, I can't wait to see this Apache done! I have a feeling it's gonna be right up there with the sickest Apache's around. Capped deck, Twin turbo motors, full re-build....Crazy. I agree with others, the fairing extension scares me a bit (reminds me of the fairing on 'Cold War') but if you look at the pic of the fairing glassed in with the guy standing in the boat working on it, maybe all is not lost....I'm sure it'll turn out nice. Kely and I still laugh all the time about that night in Newport at the Ritz:drink: Hope to catch up to you soon Sean and that things are well. P.S. You have any pics of the boat in its original skin? What was it before. I see a lot of blue under that paint. |
Thanks for the the progress report.
RIP Sacred Ground. I like to see the classics restored to the way they were originally. I guess we will see how this ends up. |
no no no no no... can't believe this boat was du for a complete resto! I'm sure I've seen boat in more need of resto than this one...
I have nothing against complete resto, since one of my first sport boat was a total project... why? to get an old boat look like a newer one, but not having to spend the money... In this case (sacred ground), I doubt the owner is grinding and sanding himself... so, thinking of the amount of $ spent in a project like that, why not buy a newer boat? lighter, faster, with smaller engines for reliability so on and so on ... ??? |

IMO it would look alot better if they would have made the taper on the back side longer, not so short..

When this boat was new it was called Addicted to Love.

Tank,
Thanks for the pictures and the list of updates to follow. This will be an interesting one to follow for sure. Jon |

No problem Jon. Figured the Apache guys would go nuts over it when I saw it. The little Schiada in one of the pics belongs to Dave from riverdavesplace.com...he was posting pics of the work they were doing to his boat and I saw SG sitting in the background...I'm like, WTF!?

Wonder where all that blue was from. I'm assuming it was mostly blue when it was first painted.
