The lead time for Mercury Racing to refresh the 800SC's became too long for my patience. So, the refresh became a replacement.

Looking good, we did a poker run @ Carl's Pier 33 marina years ago and your boat was brand new for that run , it's another example of some of Mark's great work. Enjoy, steve.

the Yellow vinyl looks great!
But too much bling for my taste in the engine comp....them painted engines looked better IMO but thatīs just me.
Iīm 1 of the old school... like cast/"unfinished" aluminum better, more like a business look to it.
*If it it doesnīt run chrome is is an old proverb.

New dry sump #6's and new steering tie bar. You can just see the restored swim platform. I will get a better picture of that today. It's worth highlighting in its own picture.

Here's a few with the exhaust system complete. The previous pictues of the transom were before the exhasut and muffler installation.

The completed Big Tube exhaust. CMI tells us that this is the only one ever done with an offset colletor at the end of the header. The welds are absolutely a work of art.

For those of you that have been through this process, you know that it is rare for the exhaust tubes to fit the first time. Well, three measurement and one build. They fit flawlessly. Kudo's to CMI.

The whole cockpit, bolsters and dash have been redone. I had the upholstery done at a local shop who did work on my previous Fountain. He has also done work for McManus in the past. In my opinion, he did a great job.

The project has moved along quickly because McManus had the time in his schedule and has kept it moving. I am local to his shop so I was available every day to review questions, listen to Mark's guidance, and make the decisions.

As I near the completion of this project I cannot imagine having undertaken it without Mark McManus' help and guidance. I applaud those of you who are/were able to complete such an undertaking on your own. It has been great fun and I look forward to being able to do another one in the future.

WOW! What a cool project!

One question...what' the reason for the 'life line'/grab rails to be on the starboard side of the boat instead of the middle like normal??

jmeng 07-17-2007 07:09 AM

From what I remember from the articles about the boat back in the day, Fred K wanted everything to be asymetrical.

I've seen that on other McManus boats as well .... Team Prime had it .... I believe War Dancer had it ....

nice work !!

I believe you got the asymetrical theory correct. It is my understanding that it was McManus' design. There are a few others with the same deck rail on the starboard side. Whether it was Mark's idea or Fred's, it creates a good deal of visual appeal.

What's the point of putting it on the side like that is my question?

Only thing I can think of, is most people dock on the starboard side. Gives ya something to grab hold of.

And just running one side still gives that unique character.

I like the looks of it running down the center of the deck on my cougar, but I'm going to miss the functionality that I had on my previous boat.

Jon
