Default Sale Price

I have just found a possible replacement for the Apache that has a nice cabin and would fit the bill perfectly. To get there I need 175-180K out of the Apache. It has been listed at 199K and I have had lots of calls, but nothing serious yet. http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o14820-en.html Summer is half over, so something is going to happen either way pretty soon. If the Apache is still here after the season, I will cut it up and add the cabin and other stuff to it. It will involve a lot of work (moving bulkheads, moving fuel tanks, cutting and redoing the dash, etc...) and will probably cause us to lose a season, but it can be done. What do you guys think? In your opinion, will the boat move if I change all of the ads to 175-180 or am I wasting my time?

yes and no...

great price at 175k.... but the person buying a 175k boat might not be able to afford a big power #6 boat....

Price sells ! but most people are not happy unless they can chop the price alot.... They may not know what it's worth but they know they want it for alot less than someone is asking...

Out of my price range for now, but I always add wiggle room to whatever I sell, it just lets you give some and they get some and everybody feels they got a good deal. Great boat!!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking for something like your boat but with a nice cabin. I like your boat, but I'd have to do all the stuff you are talking about doing in the off season, and if I'm doing that much work, then the field is very much wide open on how to get there.

Sale pricing can hurt you either way. Price to high and a real buyer may not think he/she can afford it and take the Maryland Mark approach and your lack of haggling may irritate the real buyer.

The boat is cool but a rare boat may need a even rarer buyer. The boat is probably tougher to finance due to the age and that it is a one off. Lenders may be ok to loan 175K on a used boat but if may have to be a newer, more common brand. Also if Warpath sold for less than 135K you may be priced a little high. Warpath has significant history and may have needed work but in the buyer's mind it was 40-50K cheaper than Apache Kid.

Did you call McManus/ Mark Adams about finding a buyer. They seem to be the Apache experts. I like the boat, saw it at Jacksonville PR last month. If I bought it, the new name would be Old School........

I did speak to Mark Adams about it back in like February when I first listed the boat. I had asked OSO for a fair market price back then in another thread and I didn't get a lot of response other than to call Mark Adams, so I called Mark figuring that he could give me a good ballpark. We talked for a while and he said that he would list the boat between 200 and 250K. That's why I started the OSO ad at 225. After some comments here on OSO I dropped the price to 199 a month or two later. It has been a while so maybe another call to Mark is in order.

Thank you all for the input.

You have a very sweet ride. I think the comment about needing a special buyer really hits the nail on the head. You really have to find someone that truely wants what you have and realizes that it is very rare. If you find that person they will have enough knowledge to know what the boat is worth to them and a rediculous low ball won't be an issue.

My 36' is in an entirely different/lesser league. But I had always wanted one and the asking price was close enough to what I was looking to spend that I figured it was worth speaking with the seller. After several discussions I got a feel for what the seller needed to get out of the boat and I determined that the boat was worth that to me.

Hopefully you can find someone that appreciates what you have for what it is.

(I have no idea what I'm talking about)

Reconfigure your Apache, it's one of a kind. It'll will still be one of a kind once it's changed. That is one sweet boat.

I think boat sales are only going to get worse as housing continues to tank and lenders continue to tighten their lending standards. ie. The price that sells the boat these days might be MUCH lower.

(I have no idea what I'm talking about)
