From the two photos, it is obviously that the hole is from galvanic corrosion. Also clear that the level of the fuel was at the level of the first hole for a while, and then at the level of the second hole.

You don't actually use a sawzall. An angle grinder is better.

This problem was brewing for years. It was brewing on the trailer down in Miami. Aaron never noticed anything. Bill never noticed anything.

I did. So I took appropriate action.

Ok, now criticize me for taking care of my boat. Or... maybe for posting. Or for not posting. Whatever.

It is one thing to follow these restoration threads and give advice or opinions, but to make statements like Offshoredrillin? wtf?

It's career azzholes like Rob that keep more people from posting their projects. I mean, to have a guy say that it probably wasn't even leaking?

I am starting to wonder if this pant-stained goof can even resist posting when I post.

Nice to have been able to forget about him for a while.

Internet stalkers, what cha gonna do?

Thanks for posting those pics and going into detail about the repair and possible causes. I can read post on SOS, but I can't see the pictures for some reason. I never meant to rub your nose in your problems. Sorry if it came out that way. That was directed at Bill........and as you said my bet wasn't with you. I agree about offshoredrillin and I think the majority of people on SOS and OSO feel the same.

Do you have any pics of the inside of the hull? Where the tank was, with the floor removed, before the removal, after the removal, etc. Any bilge progress pics?

It's ok. I had forgotten about the Bill bet. I posted what I did as an informational thing... I honestly believe that there are plenty of 80's foamed tanks in various stages of decay.
I do not hope that yours is... but assumed that it was built similar and wanted to make you aware of the potential.

I am glad that your boat is going well. I have nothing to gain by wishing problems on you.

I have all those pics. In order to post them here I have to upload them to photobucket. I am at the point that most of the bad wood is out. Tomorrow and over the weekend I will finish the "demo" of the bad wood and start the repair. The tank has been ordered.

Engines are at the machine shop having the pistons fitted. The AFR heads have arrived and were upgraded with Inconels with the valve job done by AFR. The cams were done by Madara and are finished.

My buddy doing the assembly still needs to finish the oil system, there were big changes there.

Should be looking at long blocks before the tank arrives.

We went with big 18x3 oil coolers, all new lines and fittings. Had to relocate the cooler to the back and made custom brackets to pull that off. If you go that route don't forget it needs to clear the power steering; we did. The long blocks I bought came with Inconel valves as well, but to be honest.............I don't know anything about them or why their so good. Anyone want to clue me in????

Much funner talking about the boats rather than bickering. If yours is an 1988 and mine is a 1990, then I figure my tank has atleast 2 years left in her

The Inconel valves are a one piece high temp valve. Some people run them on exhausts only. My understanding is that you can stick one of these valves.... but not drop a valve. I think that we are going near the engine mount brackets with the oil coolers.

As far as bickering.... I have no problem with you when you are not being a preck. I wished you congrats on your expected baby and while I did call your boat "crusty butt" I honestly never wish you any bad luck. I even sent you that pm months ago to say "hey... might as well go 502s."

I even honestly invited you over to the other place. Not that you need my invite. If you showed up and just eased your way in you would find it a great resource. Everybody who has helped me with my project is over there, that's why I haven't kept this one up. It's not like "take my ball and go home" it's just a practical matter of the same people who come to my house are on that site. Bunch of them. And some friends are here, but they aren't local or involved.

Back on that tank... I am glad that I discovered it because it wasn't THAT obvious. It was a ticking time bomb for years. That was my only motivation in suggesting that others be wary. I wasn't wishing it on anybody... but if you find it... I hope that you find it like me, when the power is out and the bulkhead was stripped for paint.
