apache 28 info
 

always hearing about these boats.... are they that good in rough water? is it because of their weight or why are they that good? and how come it seems everyone says their expensive to mantain.... are'nt all boats? just curious, and have been looking at them.... i have a 260 velocity and was curious about the difference in ride...

Yes, they're everything you've heard they are. The 28 isn't all that different to maintain than any larger offshore boat. The big one's take TONS of power and that's hard on parts. You also don't see them rigged with mid-range parts so when you redo one or repair it, you're buying top of the line. There's absolutely no comparison between the Velocity and the Apacjhe. I had a 30 Velocity raceboat and I can tell you there's no way it would hang with the 28 in anything over 4's and 5's. The 28 Apache isn't light and it's got a very long bottom- it rides and mashes water as well as most 35's.

on a 41' i can see that but even with the 28's? i see they weigh a solid 7,000 lbs...

It is not possible to compare 26 Vo, to a 28 Ap. Totaly different boats the Apache will crush the bigger water and the Velocity will be crushed, end of story.

Most are heavier than that. Mine was 8500 wet. It's more than mass- you have to look at the bottom profile out of the water to really appreciate how much there is under there.

I've run the 28 at speed next to boats in the 35' range and gave away little if anything in sloppy water. There's little out there at 28' that'll keep up in the slop- Something like a Fountain 35? No contest.

Yes they are that good in the rough. You don't have to get on top of the waves. It rides good in the rough at all speeds. There is no comparison with a 26 velocity. Not sure why it rides so good in the rough, if people knew why then surely they would have tried to replicate it by know. Mine weighs 7000lbs. They are not that expensive to maintain, the 41's are. Suprisingly the 28 does not consume much more gas than my single engine 24 python did. The apache also has one of, if not the roomiest cabin for a 28. Lots of headroom and very comfortable. I consider it more of a family boat rather than a racer. Everytime I've had it out somebody has fallen asleep in the back seat. I guess I need to turn it up a notch.

i have a 41 that weighs 8600 with fuel...fresh from the propnut to the waterpump....0 hours.........make me a fair offer.........m.m..

Motors where originally twin merc 454 365hp er 385 (don't know which). They were rebuilt and bumped up to 460hp a piece. Supposed to run upper 70's, but have not topped it out yet. Spent $220 driving 3-4 hours. Could have easily gotten two weekends out of the same $220. I usually cruise at 35-50mph, with short blast. Tank is 125 gallons, may use 1/4 each weekend.

Engine compartment is bigger than 28AT and Pantera, or so it looks that way. Don't know the exact measurements. I'll post a pic when I get home. Give me a shout when your ready to buy. Kids and house are in my near future, so unless I get a big raise something may have to give.
