Without name calling...Why would it take 16 months to rebuild two engines? I think this is your chance to set the record straight. Everybody wants to know!

It takes time and money bro. I lost money on this job trying to do someone a HUGE favor to make a pile of **** a trophy. I did things above and beyond anything any engine builder would have ever done to help Steve out. I like Steve a lot and did already apologize for any delays which is why I went the extra mile to help out the wallet. It's a shame to see East side Cleveland boys trying to slam me when they are the first one's to soak up my time with a million questions on a Sunday afternoon wanting free advice.........you to Force boy.

Bottom line...........let's see this thing go together!!

Dean not sure I've ever spoken to you in my life!! But like everyone else on this board, think Steve is a great guy and was wondering why it was so hard for him to get his engines back. I hope Steve gets her back together also.

Dean, I have never bashed your abilitys... EVER!!

you have helped me with some questions in the past and I appreciate it, only reason I go to my guy is that I always have and have been loyal to him as some are with you... we both know who..

I was at the point of using you this last year but I have a pretty decent list of people upset with your time frame to get things done, i could start listing people and issues but I am above that, I know a certain someone who waited a VERY long time to get a simple thing done and it was not even touched after 3 months.... it is done and together after a week now..
I know I am small time with my little old 454's but buisness is buisness and when it needs done it needs to get done.

Like I say, I never bashed your work, you can ask anyone that knows me, I have seen alot of good stuff there... time is the issue, I just think you spread too thin and there is not enough time in the day to do it all.

sorry if you are upset with me after this but it is what it is, man... all I said was, I agree...

I know the whole story. You didn't handle the situation correctly. Instead of admitting you screwed up, you make it seem like you did Steve a favor by taking 16 months to rebuild a pair of engines. I may need to grow up, but that doesn't change the fact the you are an incompetent engine builder.

Your so full of crap it isn't funny dude!! Besides, everything was worked out with Steve and when he actually had seen the finished product he also realized the effort we put forth. Upgrades lead to more work and more money, we lost 2 family members (RIP) , connecting rods taking 6 months to build, ect..... it was a tough year!! Sorry your so perfect Carl buddy! You have proven to be a perfect A-hole if you think you know the story!! Your not even close!! :waffen093:

I don't deny I'm a "perfect A-hole". Guilty as charged. But the fact I'm an A-hole doesn't change the fact that it shouldn't take 16 months to rebuild 2 engines.

Ok, this time we'll start at the bottom and work our way up.

"connecting rods taking 6 months to build" see post #34

"we lost 2 family members (RIP)" sorry for your loss.

"I guess I need to bring up the fact of money problems ( which is most likely why the boat is for sale)" On this one you are just simply incorrect. If you had any monetary issues with Steve in any part of the build it was probably due more to the lack of progress and promised dates(8 weeks was the original quote right?) not being met than anything to do with not having the money. If a bum on the street asks me for 5 bucks and I don't give it to him, that doesn't mean I don't have it. As far as selling the boat, don't confuse for sale with must sell!!! I have plenty of stuff for sale, that doesn't mean I have money problems. During the 16 months Steve and Krista were waiting for their motors, Michigan's economy threw them a curve ball, as it has done and continues to do many people. For now, they are living in SC where a boat of this magnitude is pretty much overkill on any of the small local lakes. Now he could keep it up here in Michigan and run it a couple times a year, but that is a pretty expensive toy for such limited use, no matter how deep your pockets.

CIG3 07-24-2008 12:13 PM

If this is such a big issue why are we not hearing anything from the owner?

I've been dealing with Gellner Engineering for many years for street motors to full race offshore engines. They have alway been there when i needed them.

These issues are between the owner and Mr. Gellner. Let them handle it. Stirring this pot will help no one.

my $.02

mrhorsepower1 07-24-2008 12:30 PM

Enough non-sense.........I will do and have done anything to help Steve put this Bad Boy back together and be of full support just like we have for over 50 years to our clients. Yes, I wish things didn't take so long on this job. It's done to perfection and I would hate to see it not come together! Peace.

7.750 center to center It was either Carrillo or Crower to build them .Carrillo was way more money, we went with Crower.

Some photos of the custom rods.

Little Tommy 07-25-2008 09:06 AM

Just curious, if you put new pistons in, why didnt you go with a 6.7 or 6.8 length rod that is relatively standard on the tall decks.
What is the bore and stroke combination?
If memeroy servers me, Zull built a few of these 653 cubic inch. Makes lots of power but durability was very poor. LT

TOASTY 07-25-2008 09:36 AM

get off of gellner. From what i have heard he is building good power. there will always be people who have problems with whatever you do no matter what...people dont like JC, Zul, bobby, papache, kurt,...please you cant please eveyone all the time. keep making power dean no need to post to these people...wheres the owner why isnt he replying...way too much chatter crist its only a 41

Its a shame you didn't order the rods when you disassembled the engines. Ordering long lead time parts last is a smart play.

They are 656 cu.in. with 11.625 deck. thus, the long odd ball rod length.

If the owner has a beef with Dean, let him post it. Otherwise, this is a bunch of 3rd party crap. And very unfair to a guy with a solid reputation.

The owner, Steve, doesn't have access to a computer right now. I'm boating with Steve and Krista tomorrow on my boat(Gellner doesn't rebuild my engines:)). Maybe they will stop by my place after the run, then Steve can use my computer. That way we all won't be subjected to "3rd party crap" anymore. One can only hope.

Ziploc 07-25-2008 12:00 PM

I'm sure that Steve is not the only one this has happened to. I'm sure there is a list of others. I think people should know that if they take their engines to Gellner, it going to be awhile before they get them back. Not that you're going to get a crap engines its just going to take a long time to get them!!!

This was a rare situation. We may not be the quickest, but I have NO comebacks and the engines run like a fine swiss watch. Our accomplishments speak for themselves!
