KCSteve, Brett was right on the step. It is bonded onto the bottom of the boat. It was designed by Bobby Moore, and is the exact step that was used on the F2 38 Top Guns. You should get in touch with Bobby Saccenti if you are curious about it. I understand if you are a purest it is probably not your thing.

didn't know you were going for a splash in one of the single steps (Assuming it was a single step ).... good stuff.
I have never been for a splash in Only Rumors.... Could be I have never had a reason to pull a 80MPH louie. :-) the step does cause a bit of POSITIVE hull efficiency I can see that with the mph numbers... does it cause instability ?... don't know... but like I said I have never race coursed it to find that out.

Yes I am actually....The way I understand it is they actually had the insert for the molds by then (after the 5 )and started pulling the twin steps... which started having the spin out problems... ( one step wasn't keeping up speed wise..makes sense )don't know if they ever got the SPINS fixed actually. :-) I have seen twin step guns in racks with reverse chines for that problem. I'd have to dig through my pics for those.

The single stepped Cigs were just straight bottos with the step added (like you're talking about). The TS Cigs were actually re-tooled bottom from scratch. EVERY one of the single step cigs had problems with handling. Ask anyone that raced one or anyone of the owners that have spun one, they are "temperamental" to say the least.
Yes, we all know people have spun T/S guns but most of these came in the early years of building/owning/racing them before everyone figured out you dont tuck the drive or let off the sticks in a turn like you do with a straight bottom Cig/Apache/etc.

You bring up a good point. I am guessing the reason I have never seen a issue while being on Only Rumors is the guy driving it is also well educated in the ways of driving a boat with steps. There was a hard learning curve for some folks when step technology was first entering the market on V-bottoms. Unfortunately some folks got hurt. I am glad everyone pooled together and got that stuff figured out.
