1993 Apache 28 brave
I just picked up an Apache 28 Brave with MPI 502’s. Can anyone give me details on the build? I see lots of 89-91 28’s out there but no 93’s. I can’t post a pic until I have 10 posts. A guy buy the handle of Steve H. Used to own this boat on this forum.
cheers! |
nice score, Im local to you so if you need any help give me a ring

Awesome. The engines are being put back in the boat as we speak. It needs a little cosmetic work and the interior is filthy. TBD if it will clean up or not. I am wondering how fast the sucker will be. Heard they are really heavy.
|
I think KCHOTBOAT on here had one a few years back, he might see this and chime in, Id guess low 70's ??
|
I bought the boat as the engines were being redone, so I didn’t have much say on what was done with them. Wondering if it’s worth messing with, or just leave stock mpi 502’s. It has a little clear peel going on which I am going to fix. The paint, other than that is in really good shape. I am also planning on doing some interior updates for a little modernization. 7 more and I can post photos….
|
Really curios on which one you landed on. I always loved the lines of them!
|
Awesome little boat! With a pair of 420’s my brother in laws 89 ran 74 best, And accelerated to 72 in about 8 seconds lol
|
When I get my 10 posts, I will 100% post pics. I am curious of the history of the boat. I contacted Apache, and Mark M. E mailed me back and said they didn’t build the boat. So I would assume it’s a Bob S. Boat. 1993 would have been a weird year due to all the movement and company restructure I am assuming.

just post a count down till you hit 10 posts

I had a 91 with 600hp 540's.Ran mid to upper 80's.Yes they are heavy but thats what makes them great boats.wish I still had it but wife wanted something more plush. It now lives in Ohio and the new owner did a fantastic job with it. Good luck with yours, looks good!!

I knew Steve from LOTO and remember the boat. He had it a few years in the mid 2000's and spent some $$ on updates.
Have not seen him for probably 10 years. His screen name was lotoparty and then became Steve_H. Those screen names were purged a long time ago and you can't do an advanced search. If you do a regular search and search lotoparty, you will see some of his old posts https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...apaches-2.html |
I found some old pics of it on this forum. The boat has held up well. It needs a little tlc and some personal touches. I bought the boat from my cousin, and he bought it from steve_h I believe. I think he picked it up in 08-09. The paint on that thing is still really nice, just needs a few minor scratches fixed and a little peeling clear repaired. Depending on what it does on gps, depends on what I actually do to with the power.
|
What all do you want to know about the build? Most had stock power. Hull bottom is solid glass, hull sides and deck are cored. Mine was very well balanced with twin stock 502/415 motors. Yours looks like its in great shape. Nice upholstery job, like the updgraded port side helm seat cupholder/arm, makes a great extra step getting down.

Does it have two bow eyes? Nice wave crusher!

That is Steve H old boat. I believe it ran in the low 70s when he had it. A guy from Shawnee Ks bought the boat and kept it at LOTO. My 90 28 Apache ran in the mid to upper 70's when I had it. The person that has my old boat now has it running 95. If anyone is interested he has if for sale.

Steve bought the boat from a guy in the San Francisco area. I believe around 2005 or so. His last name is Halloran (SP). I have not spoken to him in over 10 years. I believe he is on Facebook and still lives in the Lee Summit area.

Congrats on the Brave. I have 2002 with 133 hours on it. I love it. Have you spoken with Bobby or Eric? The older ones are heavy then the newer ones. Mine is composite and the layup wasnt the standard layup also my bottom has been blue printed. It will run with larger rigs especially in the rough. Whats your HIN?
|
I have not reached out to Bobby or Eric, although I would like to. When I spoke with Mark McManus, he was really friendly even though I can’t personally afford any of his services…. Lol. He said he’d do a new interior for 40k, which I am sure is beautiful, but way out of my price range, as I am just a humble Engineer/Air Force reservist haha. The Shawnee buyer would have been my cousin and I bought it from him recently. My HID starts with APH28. I’d have to look at the paperwork for the rest of the #. From the sounds of it, I feel like I made a pretty solid choice to get the boat. I am hoping to be blasting down LOTO by next weekend and get a few rips in it before it gets cold!

Oh, another thing I found that was super weird, is the boat had a gen V and gen VI 502 in it. I am sure that affected the way it ran because the gen V had tappet valve cam and the gen 6 was a roller motor with aftermarket heads. They match now….They are both roller motors with the aftermarket heads. That is the word I got from the engine builder. Again, I don’t remember what the name of the company was, but the marina putting the motors in gave me his contact info. The heads are supposed to be an upgrade from stock, but I honestly don’t think the heads will do much for the motors with the stock intake and cam.

KCHOTBOAT, what did you have when you were running upper 70’s?

When my cousin had it, the thing ate belts, and I always wondered why.
|
I run 4 blades on mine and they do better then the 3 blades. After talking to Mark I am thinking about 5 blades. Mine wasn't rigged at the factory either. Mel Riggs did the rigging on mine. I think it may depend on weight and the bottom. Also drive depth. Just saying.

TexomaPowerboater what are you running with stock 415’s?

The boat with the arrows i owned when it had its original 454 mags..I ran it around on the deaware river mostly. That was around 2002. sold it i think in 04. If i reacll it ran aroung 67 with that power. It is a nice boat. My opinions is its one of the good ones.
