I asked McManus how much the lightest 41 he ever built weighed, he told me 8700-8800, dry. A 7000 lbs Apache 41, while possible by cutting out a laminate or two , would not run very well in rough water, it would be like a piece of styrofoam bouncing on top of the waves. Never mind how a cross wind would affect it. It was tried many many years ago, it didn't work.

I drove a very light layup 41 once, about 8800 lbs, dry. It was a weird boat, when you walked on the deck your feet would sink in. Felt very light at speed, I couldn't imagine wanting a 7000 lbs 41. It would be near impossible to control in high wind, big wave situations.

Craig Barrie built an ulta-light 38 Cigarette. Said it ran something like 110, at the time we we're runnig 95.

He brought it to the OPT race in Chicago in '91, which was a fairly rough race. We thought we'd be far behind.

Nope. He didn't complete even one lap. Said the thing just flew into the sky with every wave.

Mark would know this boat if indeed the yellow kramer boat is the same boat that we had that was broken in half back in 1994. I called mark personally back then to see if this was just a fluke or if it was normal for 41's to break just in front of the fairing, at the time he told me that he had never heard of it happening. If marks out there I'm refering to the 41 that old man Guido was repairing back in 1994 in hollywood.

They do break jenny express was broken there bad.it cost $5,000 to fix it . that is why i sold it

My friend that fixed the yellow boat charged more than that just for the gelcoat repair! I think the total job to fix the boat that was already derigged was upwards of $30k back in 94!

I agree. We have done a lot of minor & major repairs / restorations to boats & now latley pwc's because the kids seem to think they are bumper cars. It's not cheap! Materials are expensive but only a small part of the cost, the labor to repair the unit back to square one is the expensive part.. If they only paid 5K for a repair like that they got a deal!
