any reason not to

Anybody have any reason why not to buy a 38ft?

I have a choice to make either buy a 38 Awesome or a 42 Fountain. I've have bigger and smaller Fountains so I know what to expect there but never had a cat any bigger than a 26 AO.

I could go either way but I need to decide this weekend what to do.

I've had both. (still have my 42)

I will go back to a cat but not an Awesome. IMO there are cats faster out there using less power. Not sure if its weight or hull design or both. My .02c

it is the weight and that is why I LOVE em. The lighter boats like skater will hurt you if you let them- The awesomes are built heavy and protect you from unforeseen events you never even thought could happen! LOVE MY AWESOME!!

Chat, yes and yes. And I agree with you on my next boat. 36 Skater pleasure version or a 40 MTI. Both have a mini cabin. A must have for me.

James, You are so correct. The additional weight in the hull materials and process work to help the short comings of the 31-------length and beam. Sure the top speed numbers fall short of other 30-31' cats. Hard to beat the handling characteristic's of the Chris Cat, American Offshore and Awesome 31 cats. And, don't forget the cabin/storage space too!!!

Totally agree!!

These are solid boats, if you are in the market for one....

I have seen this boat many times, it's truly a turn key / new boat. (100 mph+) :Score-101010:

Joe, If you are looking at Randy's 31, I believe that is a two owner boat. Both of which kept care of the boat, inside and out. One solid boat.

As for your original question (overall), I have never read or heard of any 31 Chris Cat, American Offshore or Awesome with any structure defect or failure. Course, that is why they are on the heavy side of the scale for a 31 size cat. Built with a fair amount of cloth and resin.

When it comes to these make/models, the question is whether or not the owner (current or previous) took care of it. I.E. Inside or outside storage. And if outside, was the boat properly covered.
