As for your original question (overall), I have never read or heard of any 31 Chris Cat, American Offshore or Awesome with any structure defect or failure. Course, that is why they are on the heavy side of the scale for a 31 size cat. Built with a fair amount of cloth and resin.

When it comes to these make/models, the question is whether or not the owner (current or previous) took care of it. I.E. Inside or outside storage. And if outside, was the boat properly covered.

The boat can go fast safely but it just takes more HP and a good setup to do it. With 700 HP and a 12 in box with X demsion at bottom of transom 5 blade 32 herrings will do 97 full tanks and six passengers. Will do 107 two people and half tanks. If X up two more inches, this is a 120 MPH safe boat!
What else do you want?
