i have tried everything and my cat is still hopping unless im in 2'+ chop.

any ideas?

racinfever 05-07-2011 02:50 PM

put some weight in the front,

try 2 60# sand bags from home depot

abones 05-07-2011 11:12 PM

Props turning inward or out, my boat did the same turning in switched to outwaed and it went away. Just a thought!

outlaw1 05-07-2011 11:18 PM

ive tried inwards and outwards no change.

weight in the from makes it worse i think its too much transom lift .

what prop dia for ssm #4 are working the best and X dimension ?

racinfever 05-08-2011 01:02 AM

Which props areu running?

thirdchildhood 05-08-2011 06:52 AM

Good tune but I'd rather hear the engines......

CNC 05-08-2011 07:39 AM

Tell us more about your setup...

Engines?

How far forward are they?

Drives?

Extension boxes?

Prop center line height?

Props?

Did you gut the cabin out?

outlaw1 05-08-2011 11:04 AM

4.25" Above
17" Dia Props
#4's On Boxes
Drives Are 56" Apart.

This Is A Drawing To Scale From The Rear. Looks To Me Like I Would Get More Water On The Inside Of The Tunnel And More Bow Lift With The Props Turning Out.

DareDevil 05-08-2011 11:32 AM

1 inch spacers ..or more power so you go fatser should solve the porposing !

CNC 05-08-2011 12:41 PM

I'm 2.75 above the bottom. 17.5 dia. props....I'm going to try turning out... Why you ask? Because looking for better handling and I've never tried it.

Tseph has a similar setup to you and I....I'm waiting to see how his runs

outlaw1 05-08-2011 02:49 PM

How far apart are your drives? Are your motors on the transom or forward like mine. Where do you get a porpus? Do you know your weight?

I'm rumming 35 props

bobkatz 05-08-2011 04:09 PM

Is this boat new to you? new setup, motors, drives, etc...

What did the previous owner try?

What kind of power, and speed are you seeing?

Have you had a cat before?

tssteph 05-09-2011 01:53 PM

What speed are you running when the hop happens? 4.25 above is VERY high imo. I agree with bobkats, we need more information. Do you have boxes? At 4+ above you better or I doubt you get on plane. Do me the video looks like it cant carry the bow. We need to know speed and setup. Post some pics.

BURNSMAZZ 05-11-2011 12:55 PM

Looks like the old Linder hop to me.

Baja555 05-11-2011 03:09 PM

definitely the Linder hop.... 4.25 above the bottom is crazy high..

Brian, I think this is the boat.

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...-cat-info.html

It looks like he's swinging a 3 blade. That might be the problem. A four or five blade surface prop might allow more bow lift. Correct me if I'm wrong

Looks like you have a 31 foot boat and need to get it to quit porposing at speed. I looked at your video and would offer a few sugestions. If you have tryed all the quick and easy solutions, then its time to step up and buy the extention boxes. You should work on the X dimention and consider 5 blade props. Gonna cost but you will get more speed and more stability in the end. This worked for me- James

GRH 05-12-2011 07:46 AM

Tunnel tab?

outlaw1 05-12-2011 10:32 PM

i have tried a tab it didnt work. i am testing with the drives 2.25" above sunday. we will see how it goes. considering reducing prop size but 1/2"-1" to reduce transom lift but i dont want to increase slip.

bobkatz 05-13-2011 08:50 AM

What props are you running, 3,4,5 blades? Is your setup the one in the picture above SSM on boxes?

Besides the X being too high, most of your "issues" are with the prop. Do yourself a big big favor, call Brett and get dialed in.

Baja555 05-14-2011 08:26 AM

It seems all the renditions or copys of the shadow and chris cats have a porpoise can they really ever be eliminated? or is it just lessened?

Brian have you had yours out yet? How does it handle/run?

Randy

Outlaw 1,
Here's a thread w/similar issue ...
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...chris-cat.html

ROTAX454 05-15-2011 10:11 AM

Randy, See Phil's post #15. Question for Outlaw: Did you purchase this boat from Cody White? Previous posts give the appearance of prop swapping with other boaters. My second (and last) piece of advice. Contact a prop professional. Brett at BBlades is one. Get a handle on a good baseline. THEN fine tune with others on this forum.

Now Randy, get back to your asparagus.

phil_p999 05-15-2011 10:30 AM

I'm almost 100% sure that is the same boat. Look at the hatch in the video and the pic's in the link I posted.

Richard, are you going to boating this summer?

Phil, Trying like crazy to. Blocks in the machine shop getting a final exam. Cranks getting balanced. All motor components are in my hands and ready for assembly once the blocks are back. Only parts missing are the prop shafts for the new shorties. What is the est. spalsh date for your ride?

Outlaw1, Please do post what Brett's advice is for your prop and outdrive specs.

I will save you some hassle and sell you my motors. 700 hp, 113mph every day in a 31 AO with 2 inch shorty bravo's.

outlaw1 05-17-2011 05:22 PM

I Ran The Boat Sunday With No Porpus But It Was 2'-3' Waves Chop. Pretty Nasty Water. Ran 114 At About 5100 Rpm. I Still Want To Try It On Smoother Water Before I Know If Its Fixed.

2.5" Above
4 Blades Turning In

tssteph 05-18-2011 08:23 AM

What pitch props and what gear ratio? then we can figure slip and see where your at efficiency wise. 2.5 above is where I just set my AO at over the winter as a conversion from bravos to SSM's on boxes.
