Trim tabs necessary at high speeds ?
Do you guys/gals who consistently run their 25 Outlaws over 70 mph always use trim tabs to keep the boat stable ? I read in another thread about Outlaws leaning to the left, well mine does that so I have to use the tabs to even it out but, at top speed the boat gets a little skittish unless I drop the tab down a bit (3 lighted segments on the left, 2 on the right). Also, if I'm running at WOT and back off all the way, the boat occasionally pulls hard to the side as soon as power is backed down, it catches me off guard sometimes. No big deal, I just want to know if this is normal. BTW - I never needed the tabs on my 232 but then i was only topping out around 60. Lastly, two easy questions for you Baja gurus...what is chine walk and what is a "hook." Thanks, Rock.

You need external hyd steering to correct the un-loading problem when you back out of the throttle. As far as the tabs at speed go, anytime you put more boat in the water it will slow you down. I would suggest moving some weight around to try to combat your lean.

Chine walk is when the boat goes from one side of the boat to the other as your running at speed kind of a bounce back and forth. A hook is when the bottom of the boat hooks downward near the transom sometimes it's not a bad thing if not too much. You can check it the a straight edge. Jason is right it could be weight in your boat or it could be a few other things.

My 272 chine walked so bad at 75-89 that if you didn't let off you'd DIE. I put full twin ram hydraulic steering on,its night and day different,Smitty

articfriends, what kind of setup is that (brand, model #, etc). I was told by more than one person that this is what I need. Thanks.

Re: Trim tabs necessary at high speeds ?
My outlaw has always leaned unless I run with portside down about 4 bars.I took it to a baja dealer to check and bottom is straight? It did it with stock bravo and 496 and still does it with external steering/standoff-box and imco 2 inch shorty with a blown 540 motor. My friends velocity handles way better? I have been @ 86 gps but anything over 75-80 is a handfull.I love my outlaw but its just not going to be fast.

There was one guy that told me he did the runners about half way up the hull at the back just the last 8in he said it stoped leaning but developed a chime walk at 74 so apparently once you get to that thats it as far as handling he did say however it picked up3 mph on gps Im just leary of messing with a hull design
